Thank you for that.  I did try both of those sites without success.  One problem for me is that I am not familiar enough with the English locations.  I get several death entries that could be my McIntosh's but the areas are not Croydon or Surrey.  For the 1911 census, I find no McIntoshes at all under the several variations I tried.

I also read the information posted about London area burials and it looks like I have an uphill battle to find them.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Lookup please McIntosh Death record in Croydon

A kind researcher was able to locate a family of interest when I could not.  I now know this family lived for more than a decade, perhaps two decades, on Southsea Road, Croydon, but even with this information, I cannot find their deaths.  Would love to order death certificates and find their burial locations.  I know their deaths would have been after 1901 at which time they are alive and well on Southsea in Croydon.  The three individuals of interest are:

Mary McIntosh, b. December 1854 in Durham
William McIntosh, b. 1855 in Northumberland
Robert McIntosh, b. 1876 in Durham

Thank you.

I have an ancestor born Mary McFadden Dec 19, 1854 in Winlaton.  She has a son out of wedlock on Jan 23 1876 named Robert Fadzen.  She marries on Sept 2 1882 a William McIntosh in Lanchester.  He is age 26, a tailor, his father is Roderick McIntosh a book agent.  This couple then seems to disappear off the face of the earth.  I can see William on the 1871 census living with his mother Ann and father Roderick and in 1881, the year before he marries my relative, living with his father and brother.  I find no trace of either after the marriage.  Any one have any ideas where I can look or can anyone locate them post 1882????

Unfortunately no.  I have the marriage certificate, he married Jane Litterick in the Mochrum Parish Church shortly after the 1841 census but it does not recite their parents names.  I appreciate the offer.  I belonged to Ancrestry for a year before I took my "brick wall" hiatus.  Our little exchange this a.m. may have given me the motivation to resume renew my searching.

Have you ever joined one of the DNA projects?  I have thought about it and I know that there are some McFadyen/McFadzen's in the groups but everytime I try to figure out what to do and what the results will tell me, I get overwhelmed.

Sorry, it is early here and I need another cup of coffee.  1871 should have been 1781.  I don't have my records here with me, but Joseph was born somewhere about 1822.  So Robert either sired a child when he was in his early 40s or he is the grandfather.

I will keep your information/names in mind and when I have time, I will pull out my records.

Robeena:

I am intrigued by your statement that they thought they were Irish.  Please explain that either on-line or privately.

I have hit a brick wall tracing my McFadyen/McFadzens back before the 1841 census where Joseph shows up at Landberrick Farm.  I do know that my McFadzens emigrated to England and at some point were joined by a Robert McFadzen, born circa 1871.  I believe him to be the father or grandfather of Joseph, but I cannot find him anywhere before he dies in England in 1870 something.

Would you also clarify whether by "Edgar/McFadyen" you are asking about Edgar as a first name of a McFadyen or is Edgar/McFadyen two surnames in a marriage.

Durham / Re: Durham ancestor; middle name "Ledger"

Janis:  Do you know why they carry this name?  It does not seem like a common random name - at least not in anyone's family other than yours or mine.
