Armed Forces / Re: Canada, British Regimental Registers of Service, 1756-1900

I too am look for an ancestor from Ireland that according to Ancestry.ca served in the  Canada British Regimental Registers of Service 1756-1900.
James (Jas) Fairfield b, 1787, Shankill, Armagh was enlisted by Lt Collins on Aug 4 1812 at Tullemore, Ireland and was pensioned out of the 48th Foot Regiment as a Private on June 26 1816, in Dublin.

Is there any way to find out where he was and what James was doing in those 4 years? Did he actually serve in Canada/US? My boys will be especially interested to know if their 4x Gt Grandfather had anything to do with the burning down of the White House! http://cdn.rootschat.com/forum/Smileys/classic/cheesy.gif

Thank you. After your response I was able to figure out that his mother, Margaret Shaw Lyons Harrison is a sister to our Mary Shaw Dickson.
Thanks again.

In both the 1901 and 1911 Ireland census a Valentine Harrison b 1896 is living with my husbands Gt Gt Grandparents William and Mary (Shaw) Dickson in Ballynahinch, Down. He is recorded as being a nephew but I have no idea who his parents are so if he is a Dickson or Shaw family nephew.
I have no further record of him after 1911.

Maybe someone here will know who this boy is exactly.
