Gillhall is nearly a mile from Dalton on the Hoddom Road.  It belongs to the  Murraythhwaite Estate and used to be the home farm for the estate, so it was by no means a small holding.  My parents farmed nearby and we visited it many times.  I have looked at the 1841 census and see that the people in Gillhall was Maxwell.  As far as I know the house is rented out and no longer the home farm.  If you contacted the owners of Murraythwaite Estate they might be able to come up with more information for you.

Could this be Cleuchbrae in the parish of Johnstone.  There is a William Porteous on the 1841 census residing at that adress aged 14 living with Jennet Porteous aged 35 a dressmaker.

I am trying to fill in some blank spaces on my family tree and was wondering if anyone had any information on my Aunt Barbara Turner Grant born 1899-1900 at Portnahaven.  She married my fathers brother James Kirkpatrick in Glasgow in 1928, he was a police seargent with the Glasgow City Police.  I have no information on Barbara at all, other than her father was William Grant and mother was Mary Turner.  I don't know if she was an only child or had siblings.  Any information would be gratefully received

Hello

John Hepworth was a noted surgeon and is on my family tree.  Yes he was bankrupt but there were many tragedies within his family and I am sure this is what led to that situation.  His first wife died and he was left with young children, then he remarried and had more children,. I can't find a Charles Hepworth and I have access to a number of Hepworth family trees and i can't find a Charles Hepworth.  I will try and collect as much information for you over the next two or three days and pass that on to you.

Have done a little more research and have found that he had a daughter Catherine and she was born 1949.  On a passenger 1950 list I found he came to Scotland with his wife Catherine F Craik and daughter Catherine A Craik.  They have Adam's occupation as Contractor and they lived in southern Rhodesia.  His wife was 32 so her birth year must have been 1917/1918.
