World War Two / Re: Mobile Signal Units (MSU 519 G)
« on: Saturday 25 August 18 09:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello
My Dad was in MSU 519 G. He disembarked on the the 1st July 1944. I was told that his unit was with 71 MTLRU at Secqueville en Bessin on the 24th July 1944. I assume these units were in 83 Group. I need to know the structure of the 83 group and how they travelled across the channel. Where did they disembark?

I was told that there were 10 wings to the group e.g. 125 Wing with Supermarine Spitfires. I have a list of 83 Group HQs. I suspect that the units followed he route of the HQs.
Thank you for any help with this.
Paul.

Hi MaxD
Thank you very much for having a go. You have given me a few leads.
I need to know a bit more about the 83 group and 2nd Allied Tactical Air Force.
Did they go over by boat or plane?
Does MSU mean Mobile Signals Unit or Miscellaneous Unit?
I believe he was at the liberation of Eindhoven and was billeted nearby.
There is a subscription forum called www.rafweb.org but I have not tried it yet.
Thanks again.
Paul.

My dad was in the RAF voluntary reserve and trained as a wireless mechanic. On his service record it states that on 1st July 1944 he disembarked (Rec / D878) and then with his Moble Signals Unit 519 (G) he travelled through Europe. Has anyone got any information about this unit and it's journey. Thanks. Paul.

Cornwall / Re: CURGENVEN - anyone heard of this name ?

Thanks again.
I think I have the wrong Frances Curvengen. According to the the burial record, she was born about 1920 but I cannot find the right parents. I dont think it can be Peter and Jane. I am relying alot on Cornwall OPC. Paul.

Hello Brian
Thanks very much for for your help. It did cross my mind about being baptised later in life. My Frances Curgenven married George Gay in 1751, and was baptised in 1739. Her burial was in 1788, aged 68, making her birth about 1720 baptised at 19 and married at 31. This makes better sense. I take it there is no registry of births.  Regards. Paul.

Regarding the marriage of Peter Curgenven and Jane Langdon in Veryan in 1738. I believe they were my G5 Grandparents and had a daughter Frances who married my G4 Grandfather George Gay in 1751. This does not make sense. She is too young!

Australia / Re: Benjamin Dunstone convict on the Neptune 1790

Thanks for replying. Its all very interesting to me. Most of my Dunstones are from the Veryan parish but some from Wendron.  I have a Robert who left Cornwall in the 1840s and went to Australia on the 'Java' and James Michael (another ancestor) went to Australia on the 'Cleveland'. I have just discovered the Cornwall OPC and so am now busy validating my information. Paul.
