Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Baptisms Worcester Parishes abt 1845.
« on: Tuesday 15 April 08 19:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have an extremely difficult to track down ancestor by the name of Selina Ann Jelf.  All I know is that she was born about 1845 (but could be within 3 years +/- this date) either in Worcester itself or Whittington, just outside the city.  The parishes in Worcester linked to the family in order of apparent relevance are St. Peter's, St. Swithun's, and All Saints.

Selina Ann Jelf was born of Alexander and Charlotte Jelf.  They were married in St. Swithun's church on 20th April 1842 and spent intermittent time in the former North Street of St. Peter's parish.

Selina also cannot be found on the 1851 and 61 censuses but was know to be living in Little Park Street at the time of her marriage to Henry Bullock in 1866.

If anyone is able to carry out this search or assist in any way I would be extremely grateful.

Kind Regards

Gareth.

Glamorganshire / Allenstown, Mountain Ash
« on: Saturday 23 February 08 18:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

When looking at a modern map of Mountain Ash, can anyone explain to me where the area described as "Allenstown" in older documents is located?  I have ancestors who were staying in Allenstown at the time of the 1861 census whilst working at one of the local mines and am trying to figure out where they were living.

Regards

Gareth.

halfasheep,

many thanks for your reply and kind offer to take a look to confirm the address of the chapel.  I would be interested in a photo if this is possible but only if it is not too much trouble.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Kind Regards

« on: Wednesday 23 January 08 20:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone let me know what the address of the Carmel Chapel in Measteg.  I understand it is on Bethania or Commercial street but I cannot locate an address.

I understand there is also a Bethania Chapel which may or may not be one and the same chapel.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks DJFRENCH,

I will look at the microfilms this weekend for Castlemorton as well as Birtsmorton since I note christenings seem to appear in both these parishes for these families.

Kind Regards

Many thanks for the feedback received to my post so far.

I have had a bit of a breakthrough in the last day in that I have traced all the siblings of both potential parents and not that one set had two Williams (born 1749 and 1751).  If I am correct to assume that the 1749 William died and that is why their next male child was also called William then my ancestor must be the surviving William born 1749 and therefore I can identify the parents.

I am off to the LDS library in London on Saturday to see if I can find a death entry in the parish records for the William I believe to have died.

Regards.

England / Two William Bullocks born 1749 Castlemorton
« on: Monday 02 July 07 18:45 BST (UK)  »
I have come to a dead end and wonder if anyone can offer suggestions as to how to proceed.

One of my ancestors is William Bullock born Castlemorton, Worcestershire in 1749.  However two William Bullocks were born in Castlemorton in 1749 (one in october and one in january - Julian Calendar).

I do not know which is my ancestor and thus which family line to trace back.

Does anyone have and tips.  I've seen the parish registers but cannot find any obvious clues to determine which William is mine.  I know the names of both parents for both Williams (Richard & Hannar and Andrew & Sarah) but none appear in the marriage register entries for the marriage I've found of my William to Elizabeth Clinton.

If anyone can offer any help, advice or new avenues to explore I would be most grateful.

Thanks
