Louth / Re: Lookup request; McGough family; Dundalk, Co Louth, IRL
« on: Friday 07 March 25 18:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi:
I have all of those in my McGough tree in my Campbell family of Seneca County in Ancestry.com
If I remember correctly, Pat McGough was a blacksmith in Penn Yan, not far from Geneva NY where the other McGough's initially settled. I think the documentation tying him to my Rose McGough were not as solid but enough that I put him in the tree.
Drop me an email with McGough tree in the subject line to personal contact and you can tell me what you think.
Best regards from Western NY
Chuck

Re: Neary Children growing up...
The Mary Neary in my line; daughter of Martin and Catherine (O'Malley) Neary was born in 1864 in Geneva, NY and she married Joseph Henry Campbell about 1888 per 1900 census. She indicated they had been married 12 years which would have been 1878. Kids were 8 and under in 1900. In 1910, she indicated they had been married 21 years. Oldest child, Alice, was 18.

What is interesting is how many of the names repeated in the Neary Children growing up:
Mary Alice, John H., Michael, Catherine, Martin J, Dominick, Thomas

Per the 1870 Seneca County NY census:
Martin was 32, Catherine was 38. This means he was born about 1838. In 1883, he was 43.
The church record of their marriage in IRL indicated about 1854. They emigrated to USA about 1859 per 1900 census.

Ireland / Christopher O'Mealia; b. abt 1825;IRL
« on: Monday 23 December 24 22:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all:
Trying to help a friend locate where her O'Mealia family may have come from.
Christopher O'Mealia; b. abt 1825; IRL is found in the 1851 and 1861 census of Whitby, Ontario,
Canada.
His descendants eventually moved to the Akron, Erie County, NY (son Nicholas) and eventually to the Rochester, Monroe County, NY area (Charles Christopher; b. 1878, NY).
I have suggested that she do a DNA test to find similar surnames.
Does anyone have any suggestions as how to find Christopher O'Mealia?
Thanks in advance.

Hi:
Just from your email, it sounds as though the lease was through the second Hugh Close from Kircubbin based upon proximity.
Thanks for clearing it up.
