Hi R973G(?!),

   My Greenaways...

Edmund GREENAWAY was born in 1711 (calculated).  He married Elizabeth BROOKER on 9 September 1730 in Greenham, Berkshire.1

Elizabeth BROOKER was born in 1711 (calculated).  She and Edmund GREENAWAY had the following children:

2   Grace GREENAWAY (b.1731, bur.1731).   Grace was born in 1731 in Beedon, Berkshire.  She was christened on 10 June 1731 in Beedon, Berkshire.  She was buried on 27 July 1731.
+3   Elizabeth GREENAWAY (b.1732, bur.1794)

The Chapmans my Greenaways are connected to and how....

Elizabeth GREENAWAY, daughter of Edmund GREENAWAY and Elizabeth BROOKER, was born in 1732 in Beedon, Berkshire.  She was christened on 20 August 1732.2  She married William CHAPMAN on 19 September 1752 in Newbury, Berkshire.3  She was buried on 22 June 1794 in Chieveley, Berkshire.

William CHAPMAN was born in 1732 (estimated) in Berkshire.  He and Elizabeth GREENAWAY had the following children:

+5   George CHAPMAN (1752-1811)
+6   Hannah CHAPMAN (1754- )
+7   John CHAPMAN (1756- )
8   Isaac CHAPMAN (1761- ).   Isaac was born in 1761 in Leckhampstead, Berkshire.  He was christened on 14 April 1761 in Leckhampstead, Berkshire.4

I have all Chapman events up to the present day, I am desparately trying to locate William Chapmans and Edmund Greenaways birth places, dates etc....

HAPPY HUNTING.

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for your interest. I found my William and Elizabeth Chapman in the John Brook's Marriage Index at the Berks Records Office. They married on 19th Sept 1752 in Newbury, Berks but haven't made the BFHS Marriage Index yet! Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Graham.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Chapman marriage pre 1752

I've been researching my Chapman's of Leckhampstead, Berks for a while now and whilst they were prevalent in Leckhampstead from 1752 thru' 1871 (they then moved north to Yorkhsire/Lancashire)... I am at a dead stop pre 1752.

I've not quite exhausted all the Parish Registers at the BRO in Reading but it is looking increasingly likely that pre 1752 my Chapman's were residing outside Berkshire, hence I am starting to look at Oxfordshire, Surrey etc etc.

Can any one check the Marriage Index to see if they can identify a marriage between a William Chapman and Elizabeth around 1750?

They had a son George, baptised in Beedon, Berks on 3rd December 1752 but prior to this I have no knowledege of them.

N.B. I am aware of a William Chapman marrying an Elizabeth Griffin on East Challow, Berks on 6th August 1750 but sadly this would not appear to be my William and Elizabeth.

Thanks in anticipation of any assistance you are able to offer.

Berkshire / Middlesex Militia + Berkshire Family
« on: Monday 16 January 06 22:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have an ancestor who married in Newbury in 1809, I believe he and his wife produced a child in Plymouth in 1816 whilst he was a Private in the Middlesex Militia before they returned to Berkshire in approx 1818 to parent another 5 children.
I am seeking help (read education) on how the Militia recruited and how (if it all) I can track my 4 x Gt Grandfathers movements to and from Plymouth!
I've scrabbled around at the National Archives at Kew on a single, first occasion... but feel I need some advice/guidance/education before continuing there!
Thanks in anticipation of any assistance you are able to provide and happy hunting! G
