Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Sussex village name
« on: Sunday 22 December 24 03:54 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for the replies. :D It certainly fits in with the Barber's movements. The map link was very helpful & not a great distance from town to town that they travelled. When your in a different country it's hard to get your head around the different places.
Many Thanks & wishing you all a wonderful Christmas.
Cheers, Skipper

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Sussex village name
« on: Tuesday 17 December 24 05:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,
I'm hoping some kind person can help me with a village name. In the Ancestry 1851 census
Eli Barber is born at ......ling? The ancestry say Mandling however I can't find a place called Mandling.
As Eli doesn't appear in any other record (census, birth or death) I'm stuck.
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers, Skipper

Re: Cantrill & Astill families Borenore, Orange district.
I don't know when this original post was placed but I just happened on it. My gt. gt. grandparents (Whitehead) came from Borenore & both your families are mentioned in a few documents that I have as they had adjoining properties. I'm sure that I have some photocopies of some school pics of some of the family (not very good). Please let me know if your interested & I will look them out.
Cheers,
Skipper

Australia Lookups completed / whitehead
« on: Friday 20 January 06 12:05 GMT (UK)  »
Any suggestions  please...I'm  chasing Whitehead connections.
I have a william  born abt.1830 in Dublin was carpenter in Aust.
His father also Wm.  date & place of birth unknown was listed as an "editor" & "gentleman".
I haven't had any sucess with Dublin as a starting point & have looked  at UK possibilities as  there maybe Wesleyan Lay- Preacher connections & also looked in the news &  printing  industry but so far nothing jumps out.Interested to find how (if correct) Wm snr. became a "gentleman" ..by inheritance or work skills
Any leads offered would be grateful.
Cheers,
Skipper   ;) :)

Hi! Rosalie & Prue,
All the Whiteheads listed @ Orange Cemetery with the exception of(as far as I know) Mary Elizabeth & John are all my relations.
Possible that John could even be related to William..depending on his age ..maybe a clue :-\
I've been able to work out that Rebecca arrived in 1853  & William 1856/7 according to their death certificates.
Just found a Rebecca Graham which fits the right age arriving on the Derry Castle 22/5/1853 into Melbourne from Liverpool.
So far unable to find a passanger list except through the online Vic Govt. William has been elusive as to port of entry so far....I'll keep on digging :) & thanx for your help.
I live on an island in Moreton Bay off Brisbane
Cheers Skipper
