Kerry / Re: Power of Kenmare

This may be the correct family but it looks as though there may not be a marriage.
There are relevant deaths in Surrey - does that make sense?

Currently nothing make sense! The DNA match is around a 2nd cousin to the lady I am helping. She is also around a 2nd cousin match to a shared match. Neither of the matches have a tree and the other shared matches are in the 20cM area so not much to go on there.

She has a match who must be either a 1st cousin or a half niece. We have ascertained the link is via this match's paternal line, but his name is Smith so progress is slow. There is a very strong connection to the name Traynor from Edenderry and then there is another connection to the name Ryan but I can't get back far enough yet to see where from. There is also a possible link to Hughes. The Leeds method threw no light on the matches at all - so I think there may be some endogamy.

The Richard Lalor Power born 1935 married in Luton in 1958. I think we will have to buy the marriage certificate so we can get a father's name if we are going to progress this line! See if it's Algernon :D I've found the tree you mentioned, thank you!

Kerry / Power of Kenmare
« on: Friday 04 October 24 17:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am working with a lady to uncover the identity of her father through DNA. One of her matches is connected to the Power family of Kenmare. I have traced back to the birth of Richard Lalor Power, mother's maiden name Standard or Stannara or Stanmore - there are 3 Power births in Kenmare in the 1920s and 30s and the maiden name is listed as all of these variations but I suspect they may well be the same family. Can anybody help me with where I can find a Power / Standard etc. marriage in the 1920s? I think it will be in Kerry. There is a 1911 census return for James Power and Mary Alice Willis (both born Cork), all children bar the first one born in Kerry and I think they may be connected to Richard Lalor Power. The sons names on the census are Robert Joseph, Pierce James, Francis John and Henry Richard.

All help much appreciated! Irish records are not ones I've ever had to look through before  ;D

Suffolk / Re: Thomas Carlisle and Mary Bradbury Marriage

Thanks for the look up - this marriage is proving very difficult to find! I know the Jesus records were possibly not very well kept in this period as there is a long gap in the records right at this point so it may be they did marry there and the record was not written or has been destroyed. I will keep searching!

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: John Lemon of Moulton burial
« on: Thursday 30 May 24 17:03 BST (UK)  »
Thank you so much for this. I have been working from the Suffolk FHS transcription CD and there is a Dorothy bapt 1745, Ann 1746 and Louisa 1749 - no mention of the 1747 baptism that is illegible nor the Richard baptism in 1754... I would like to think Daniel is their son (John Lemon's maternal grandfather was called Daniel I believe) They must all be connected - there are no other Lemons in Moulton! I just need to prove Mary Lemon is also one of John Lemon and Mary Carliel / Carlisle's children! Could the Richard bapt 1754 and the Robert buried 1755 actually be the same person I wonder?

Huntingdonshire / Re: St Ives, Huntingdon - Parish Register - Look up request

At least I was some help! I had already taken a look at the Hunts Quaker records in case they appeared in there but alas, no Overalls were there.  There was an Overall mentioned in Hemingford Grey, I can't remember off the top of my head who or what it was. Hemingford Grey stuck out to me as there was a big Quaker burial ground discovered there in the 2000s and there is mention of burials there in the Hemingford parish registers which are denoted as "buried at Oubourn". However, I have just checked the PR and it was a marriage, John Overal of Ramsey m. Sarah Mitchell of St Stewkley (sic) by licence Nov 1 1711 and a burial Martha Overall w. of Henry buried in linnen, five pounds being divided between the informe and the poor of the parish 27 Feb 1680. The "Oubourn" burials start in 1687 so Martha is too early! I have Overalls in my tree but they are from Essex and came to Linton.

Sorry I was confused because you had put Henry Overall above but I see from your previous posts that you knew it was James Overall and Corrinah Hull! Presume you have the date of their marriage?

Thanks Galium! That baptism fits the family perfectly ;)

And how exciting that Cambridgeshire (and hopefully Huntingdonshire) records will be coming to Ancestry soon...I had not heard that, I'll keep my fingers, toes and eyes crossed  ;D

These are now not expected until 2025. Transcriptions of Ramsey PRs will be uploaded to CHFHS website very soon. www.chfhs.org.uk They are ready, but we are unable to upload new data atm.

Cambridgeshire / Re: Katherine Hall Chapel
« on: Monday 13 May 24 16:54 BST (UK)  »
Contact the St Catharine's College archive and ask them to look for the marriage to ascertain whether it took place there: archivist@caths.cam.ac.uk

St Catharine's was known as Catharine Hall until 1860. There are several marriages in the Great and Little Shelford registers that took place at Catharine Hall Chapel, plus several more at other colleges. The Little Shelford advowson was bought by the college in the 1870s so there is a connection albeit later than the marriage you are looking at. (Buying advowsons gave colleges a means of securing the rapid succession of Fellows, most of whom were in holy orders.)
