Cardiganshire / Re: Daniel Thomas draper and one time mayor of Aberystwyth
« on: Saturday 21 April 12 21:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Having my roots in Llangeitho  (my grandmother's birthplace) there has been a family story about a 'cousin' being the Mayor of Aberystwyth. However the usual Chinese whispers that you get with genealogy sent me off on a wild goose chase to no avail.  Finding this post has set me off again especially as seeing the photo of the Mayors wife was uncanny . She has got my nose! (or have I got hers??)

This makes me think the connection may be on my great grandmothers side as she was a Williams too. Catherine Wiliams, daughter of John and Dorothy Williams of Rhyfydyr Lledrod. Am I barking up the wrong tree again?

Many thanks
Amanda

Hi '
Many thanks for your post. I visited llangeitho with my mum and was lucky enough to be invited into Brynawel. My mum hadn't been back for 64 years so it meant a lot.
Are you from the village itself ?
Have done quite well with the family tree but still cant pin Jenkin down !!!

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Josiah Whitehead c1831

Hi,
Many thanks for your reply.
That could be a possibility but all other documents have him as Josiah. However there is a death for a Josiah Butterworth Whitehead in 1878 but is in Worcestershire!!
Guess we'll just have to send off for both certificates!
Thanks again

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Josiah Whitehead c1831
« on: Sunday 06 April 08 22:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Trying to find details of a death for Josiah Whithead. He is on the 1871 census(as William) with his wife Emma. However she is a widow on the 1881 census. I believe he was born in Yorkshire(? Greetland father named John) but he lived in Lancashire in Chorlton.
Many thanks

Cardiganshire / lost web site!!
« on: Tuesday 08 January 08 22:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Ages ago in the very beginning I found myself on a website looking at Cardiganshire marriages 1813 to 1837 which was a fantastic help. And now, not being very computer literate, I cant find it again. Only references to it.
If anybody has the foggiest idea what I'm going on about please could they point me in the right direction. Much appreciated!(I've learnt how to save things now!)
Thanks
Amanda

Cardiganshire Lookup Requests / Cilcennin birth/baptism look up
« on: Thursday 20 December 07 20:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Please could someone help to confirm if I have the right family!

I am looking to see if Martha Davies 1st or 12th August 1825 had a brother called Jenkin.  (She was the daughter of David Davies and Martha/Mary Lewis of Caerhos,Cilcennin)

If so I believe that he was the father of my GGF and will be the missing link I have been searching for.
Martha married John Timothy and emigrated to America c1860 and there is a known  Mormon connection within the family according to an elderly relative
.
I have found David Davies at Caerhos on 1861 census with his grandchildren one of whom I think is my GGF Jenkin Davies c1858/9

I've just had a thought. I guess it could be Jenkins mother I should be searching for as they all seem to be Davies' anyway!!

Any info on any children of David and Martha will help and I'll try to sort out the muddle later.

Many thanks
Regards
Amanda
