Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Thomas Walmsley and May Walmsley
« on: Sunday 29 October 23 10:37 GMT (UK)  »
I have a broach with two photos back to back. The girl is Mary Elizabeth (May) Walmsley 1906 to 1917, she died of an appendicitis. The other is possibly her father, my paternal grandfather, Thomas Walmsley 1881-1949. I opened the broach hoping that the photos were labeled. Are the two photos cut from the same photograph? The attached photos have not been touched. I would be greatly appreciative if you could repair the photos and perhaps shape them to ovals. Many thanks, Trevor Walmsley, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Lancashire Resources / Strangeways Prison
« on: Thursday 05 October 23 12:11 BST (UK)  »
In the 1901 census my great grandmother Mary Jane Lowry (nee Hartley) was in Strangeways Prison.

Where can I look for more information - I don't need her information - only where to look?

I have found her sentenced to 4 months of hard labour in January 1896 under the name Mary Jane Lowrie for neglecting her son.

Thanks Trevor Walmsley, Christchurch, New Zealand.

« on: Wednesday 13 September 23 22:02 BST (UK)  »

Lancashire / Ralph Hartley, Blackburn 1739-1798
« on: Sunday 18 December 22 03:52 GMT (UK)  »
Ralph Hartley my 4th Greatgrandfather married Ellen Anderton 5 May 1764 at St Mary's Church, Blackburn. Some other family trees on Ancestry have Ralph born in 1739 at Rishton, Lancashire, England (no links given). I have found two Ralph Hartley's buried at Blackburn - 22 Nov 1798 father Ralph and 3 Sep 1798 but no ages found.
Question when was Ralph Hartley baptised and who were his parents?

Can you help - I have exhausted all my way of searching for him in findmypast, ancestry, myheritage and family search.

Xmas cheers Trevor Walmsley, Christchurch, New Zealand

Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Printing a large family tree

I would like to print out my large family tree but each search leads me commercial printers. Are there any programs out there I could use myself?

Far better than exporting a gedcom file I would setup RootsMagic and sync your data. Then once in RootsMagic you can save to a memory stick. The saved family tree will also include l your media files as well (unlike gedcom). If you ever loose your ancestry tree you can restore it from your memory stick. There is no initial cost to set this up. You can do it once for free. Once in rootsmagic you could take your laptop to a church etc and edit your family tree - once home you can connect your laptop to the internet and resync with ancestry (you need to pay for an upgrade of rootsmagic to do this). Good luck Trevor Walmsley, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Lancashire Resources / What to search for details of deaths in 1850 to1870
« on: Thursday 29 September 22 11:45 BST (UK)  »
I am at a loss on how to find out details of the death and burials of my 3rd Great Grand Parents William Gregory 1778 - 1860 app and Betty Handcock 1787 - app 1857. They were both baptised in Matlock. They were married at Chesterfield in 1804. In the 1841 and 1851 censuses they were in Manchester where Betty was recorded as Elizabeth. I could not find entries in the 1861 census where they would be 83 and 74 respectively. I have searched for civil registrations but nothing gels as probable matches. I am not looking for someone to search these records out for me but I would like ideas / suggestions on what sites to search on. regards Trevor Walmsley, Christchurch, New Zealand. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/tree/108156751/family?cfpid=410063158427

Lancashire / Ann Thorpe 1700 - which father do I choose
« on: Thursday 26 May 22 13:59 BST (UK)  »
I have Ann Thorpe baptized 6 Mar 1700, father Isaachar Thorpe and Ann Thorpe baptized 27 Oct 1700, father John. Both baptized in Oldham in Lancashire, England. What other information should I look for to help decide which one is my wife's 6th great-grandmother who married Joseph Stansfield in 1716 in Oldham? Have I hit a brick wall? cheers Trevor Walmsley, Christchurch, New Zealand.
