I have a John and James Shiel
I also have an Isabella Dagleash and Isabella Stevenson but sadly the other names and dates don't fit so I don't think we are on the same line.
I'll keep it all in mind and if I discover anything I'll let you know

Yes, I'm certain they are mine.
Isabella died 27 Nov 1893 at Bowden (Parish) aged 83
Her parents were John FAIRBAIRN and Helen DODDS
But I've been unable to find find any other trace of them.
Your lead on James at Kelso might produce something new.

I have very little info about the Fairbairn / Dodds side of the family and you have added a brilliant piece to the jig-saw
The Kelso connection may be a vital link to there origins

Our Gt Grandmothers were sisters.
I think that makes us 3rd cousins.
After 2 years of searching you are the first blood relative I have found.

I would be very grateful if you would let me have scans of any documents you have.
Do you have any info on the other 6 siblings ?

Does John's death cert contain any useful information.

Whereabouts are you ?
I live in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

My mother was Annie Elliot, daughter of Joseph Elliot and Annie Temple.
Annie Temple was the daughter of James Shiel and Ann Forsythe.

John Forsythe (b. 1810) married Helen Learmond (b.1815) in 1842.

Children
Ann (My Great Grandmother)
George, Janet, John, Mary, Agnes, Elizabeth and Helen.

I know nothing about John and Helen's parents - If you have anything I would love to hear from you.
