Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / One hard-to-read word in a Burial record
« on: Thursday 26 March 20 15:52 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help with this?  There is bad bleed-through on the register page, but I have enhanced it as well as I can. The text is: "John Broadway ______ was buried April ye xvii 1679".  But what is that missing word??

Who's going to win the virtual coconut?

Thanks, GR2 - I hadn't thought of that.  Good possibility.  But what then of the preceding word?  Looks like  < Dich > ???   ... but what could that mean ?

Can anyone decipher the (poor quality) last word on the first line and the first word on the second line of this marriage record from the village of Myddle in Shropshire?  They clearly relate to the parentage of the bride "Johanne", and I have some ideas, but I don't want to corrupt your own thinking with them!

I'm perfectly happy with the rest of the Latin text, and the Welsh patronymic.

Thanks ...

Yes, I think paterfamilias is right.  Image attached: two occurences within a few weeks of each other.

Many thanks.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Meaning of " patfls " in C17 burial register?
« on: Monday 10 February 20 22:12 GMT (UK)  »
I've just been studying images of the Thaxted, Essex burials register for the year 1625.

Several of the burials (seemingly only of men, not women) have the abbreviation " patfls " following the individual's name.

I do have an idea what this might mean, but I'd love to hear from anyone who knows for sure!

Thanks.

Thank you, Karen ... and thank you, Dave.

Just what I expected and needed!

Dave: I thought I had finished (!), but at the last minute this burial turns out to be very important to me.

Can you please help? (esp. with the final column, which I think may be the key to it all).

Thank you.

Mike
