Can it be taken out of the frame and rescanned? There are a lot of reflections obscuring the image.

I didn't print the picture of the girl, but just pasted it into a publishing program and it was 5.5 inches by 9. Try using the original picture (the one posted here) and you should have better luck.
As for the other picture, I tried to lighten it, too, but didn't have much luck. I'll post it anyway.

Can you scan it again and post a larger copy of it? You can post photos up to 500kb and this one is only 55kb. It's much too small to do anything with, at least with the eyeballs I have.

Not the best work I've ever done, but here you go. I took the uniform colors from a page about the Gloucestershire Regiment I found online, but no guarantees as to accuracy. I made it a bit smaller, too.
