Hi John,

I've had the name John Edward Woodger mentioned but I don't think it will be him as I think he ended up in the workhouse.

Yes the fish curer, John Woodger was a cousin (four times removed). I'm not sure if the street was named after him, he would be the obvious one but quite a few of his relatives were also quite successful and have a connection to that area so could be any of them.

It's an unusual surname so I'm guessing there must be a connection but I just don't know to which one of them.

Not much help really, sorry.

Sorry to reopen such an old thread but does anyone know the history of Woodger Terrace?

I've been told it was named after a relative of mine but haven't been able to find anything to prove or disprove that.

Thanks,

Michael

Thanks for the help Maddys52, I appreciate you taking the time to look it up for me.

I had seen a lot of that, I'm hoping the survivors report will fill in the specific details and explain exactly what happened.

Thanks again,

Michael

Morning All,

I was wondering if anyone was going to the National Archives at Kew and might have some spare time to look up a report for me.

I'm after a copy of a Survivor's Report which is held in piece ADM 199/2140 on page 121 and relates to what happened to the SS Robert W Pomeroy in 1942.

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4122500

I met a lady on Remembrance day who was looking after her father's grave, a father she never met, I'm hoping this report will tell me what happened to him.

Thanks a lot,

Michael

I live in North Shields and the only thing I can think of would be that we had a busy fishing port and coal industry in the area, could they be connected to that?

Perhaps she was one of the herring girls that used to come down?

River Tyne Lass might have some ideas if she sees this, it may be worth altering the title of this to include North Shields.
