Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: William DORE of Freshwater, IOW, died abt 1784

William Dore (born 1752 Freshwater son of Wm Dore & Mary White) md 1773 Rebecca Smith had 6 children in Tyneham, Doreset (Sarah or Sally 1774, Wm 1774, Mary 1777, Anne 1780, Robert 1782 and James 1784) They then moved back to Freshwater, Isle of Wight (probably because of an accusation in 1783 Quarter Sessions Court of an assault on Robert Woodrow) and had 2 more children in Freshater (John Smith Dore 1786 and George Warrenot Dore in 1788)

His parents were Wm Dore and Mary White but it is interesting that after his mother died, his father also married a Rebecca (Rebecca Cotton 1774 in Freshwater) so Wm  husband of Rebecca Smith had a wife Rebecca and a stepmother Rebecca.

Anne was bapt 17 July 1750 in Easton, Freshwater, Isle of Wight daughter of William Dore and Mary White.

Her brother Wm Dore married 1773 in Freshwater to Rebecca Smith but most of his children were bapt in Tyneham, Dorset. His wife Rebecca Smith had an uncle Ephraim Smith of Povington Farm in Isle of Purbeck, Dorset. Wm Dore because the Lord of the Manor if I understand correctly. The following are notes on him that I have:
Tynham Dorset tax returns for Povington Farm
Wm Dore Jr from 1780 to 1784 and then rented the farm to Richard Duel. This exactly matches the birth of his children because he had children baptized in Tyneham, Dorset and then moved in 1784 back to Freshwater, Isle of Wight where his last two children were baptized. The fact that they were all his children is proven by the will of his wife Rebecca (then a widow) in 1791
Quarter Sessions court
There is an interesting note in the 1783 Quarter Sessions court where Wm Dore, yeoman of Tyneham, Wm Cox of Coombe Keynes, gamekeeper and James Dore of East Lulworth, yeoman were to answer for assault on Robert Woodrow. This may have been the reason he moved back to Freshwater, Isle of Wight??
Quarter Sessions court
The year Wm Dore moved back to Freshwater, Isle ofWight, he as Lord of Manor of Povington, Dorset appointed Thomas Witt of East Stoke, Dorset, gent as the gamekeeper of the manor.
History of Povington Farm
The Vincent family owned it until 1733, then went to his sister's son Wm Lord and then inherited by his cousin Wm Dore. The Dore family sold it in 1801 (last record of Dore family paying taxes on it was in 1800).
Anne's grandparents were Wm Dore & Mary Hearne and greatgrandparents Wm Dore & Lydia Osborne. They are also my ancestors.
