Staffordshire / Re: WITKISS in Wolverhampton

William Witkiss was born 11th June 1929, died 6th April 1998. I am in touch with his daughter Cathryn (Cathy), as genealogist and historian in Ellesmere Port. Gideon Oaks was not Evelyn's father. It is quite a convoluted story, and if you have a Facebook account, you can find out more at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1375267269618048

Cambridgeshire / Re: CORNWELL from Bottisham

When John Travers Cornwell VC's mother Lily King died in 1919, for some obscure reason that I haven't been able to get to the bottom of, the death records gave her name as Alice. Apparently, she did use this name....(!). Things were compounded by her being interred in John and Eli's grave as Alice, and with Alice Carpenter's birth year! The Alice Elizabeth Cornwell death in Hackney 1896 is for a 1 year old. She MIGHT have been a daughter of Eli and Lily, as their 1911 Census record states they had lost a child. I have scoured for a marriage certificate, I have searched everywhere for death records for Alice Carpenter.

Ross & Cromarty / Re: David Gibson FLEMING ex Ardullie, Kiltearn

Although I cannot be 100% certain, I believe Basil Lennox Fleming married an Elizabeth "Lizzie" Artes in 1925. She lived at 4 High Street, Sawston, Cambridgeshire. Many things point to him being away from home at that time, and I think he died in 1926. The death was in the registration district of Royston, Hertfordshire, but the boundaries blur. I can't find his death recorded in the newspapers. You can find him in Lavender Hill, London in the 1911 Census, boarding with a missionary, and my GUESS is that he possibly followed the same path. In 1891 he is living with the family in Pavenham, Bedfordshire, where David G Fleming is a farmer. The only downside is that David is shown as having been born in Lancashire, but the children all hail from Scotland.

Hope this helps!
