Thanks for getting in touch, we will be fourth cousin's once removed.  I also am intrigued by the monkey story, not sure it would have belonged to Maria Elizabeth Hester who married John Louis Balestice has she passed away in 1894.  Do you have any other family stories or mention of my third great grandfather George Hester (brother to your Thomas Hester) or his daughter Emma Amelia Hester who came to New Zealand and married James Henry Clayton.  Thanks Christine

We faired quite well, not much rain, mostly wind, no power cuts, and today is beautiful.

I sent Dale a PM with an email address for headstone photos of Hamilton East Cemetery.  All you require are the plot numbers which can be found on the Hamilton Cemetery Database.  If anyone else requires the address just let me know.

Midlothian / When was William Elliot born and who were his parents?

Helping a friend and are hoping someone can help her.

She has all the families and dates right up to my brick wall.

When was William ELLIOT born and who were his parents?
 
William ElLLIOT and Mary DUN  were married 25/11/1789
Edinburgh (Midlothian) Scotland

William ELLIOT Gent's servant, Old Kirk Parish and Mary DUN same Parish. Daughter of the deceased John DUN, Shepherd of Dodhead County of Roxburgh Scotland.

Mary's father died just before their marriage 19/7/1789

They had 2 sons.

John ELLIOT born 11/9/1792 Galashiels and his father was listed as servant at Rink.

William ELLIOT born 9/8/1794 and his father was listed as a servant at Philliphaugh Selkirk.

Mary died in 1835 at 79 years old, making her birth 1756.  William died before Mary and she never remarried.

On both of the son's death certificates their father William was listed as a farm servant.
