Hello all,

I'm also looking for Bilston ancestors.  Specificially the Wilcox family, who lived around what is now the Bilston Town football ground.  I've got as far back as Joseph Wilcox who was born apparently either in Capetown or the East Indies in 1794-ish, depending on what it says in the census.  Before that they vanish into history, but I am always trying hard to find a link with the Wilcox's from Kingswinford as that was where he got married.  I'm also researching other branches of families from Bilston including Stokes, Fellows and Hollyhead.  They all appeared to move in and around Bilston all through the 19th century, and tracking them down is never easy!

Hi Trena,

The Jordan I am descended from (Ann Jordan b about 1837) apparently came from either Lewisburgh (1861 census in New Mills, Derbyshire) or possibly Westport depending on which census you read.  I say possibly Westport as there was an Ann Jordan from Westport in the 1851 census who was the daughter of a Richard Jordan, who was a journeyman Tailor, living in Manchester.  I've never been able to confirm this is my family, but it says on the census that Richard Jodan was from Kilgeever in County Mayo, which is the same parish as Lewisburgh, and not far from Westport.  I know Ann Jordan was definately a Catholic.  I don't know if that helps you, but if there is some link to my Jordan's I would be interested to knows as it's a complete brick wall for me!
