Hi Maps,

Did you find what you were looking for?

I think this vessel was sold and operated out of Singapore as Official No, 40684 in the early to mid 1850's.

I'm looking for a crew list for the vessel from between 1854 and 1858.

Let me know if you had any luck please.

Kind Regards

Occupation Interests / What is a Pantry Boy
« on: Wednesday 28 December 11 15:27 GMT (UK)  »
In a crews list of 1851 on a ship from England to India my relative (12 years at the time) was stated as a Pantry Boy. Could someone please tell me exactly what a Pantry Boy was in the context of being on a ship and serving in the 1850's?

Much appreciated.

Regards Andrew

Hello all,

My family recently found a family bible with an inscription that it was presented to a school boy from his principle and are trying hunt down descendants.

The bible belonged to Alfred Henry Michell (born in Victoria in 1883). He married in New Zealand to Barbara Davis Loveday in 1909 and had at least one child Bertha Loveday Michell in NZ in 1910.
Albert died in 1964 and Barbara 1977.

The NZ events come from the BDM index - however not knowing anything about NZ records can any one tell me how someone living in Australia can find out the descendants of Bertha. The BDM records are non-searchable when Bertha would / may have married.

Any help (perhaps a look up) would be appreciated so I could return the Bible to the family.

Kind Regards

Andrew

Kent / Re: Looking for a Kent radical and his family

My ancestor is Christiana Crouch whom married James Lenham in Barming in 1790.

The marriage entry records she is from Yalding.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Notice you had the name Lenham.

My crowd came from Yalding. James & Xtian Lenham had 10 children there. Have been unable to connect them to any other nearby Lenham clans.

Stephen,
I too posted my 1st post and thought I'd check out who else is looking for Simmons.

Whilst I am not related I did take details of the 1851 census of Croydon for Simmons.

Sorry I had poor notes back then but here goes...

In Croydon I have

Abode - 'Post Office Yo"

Name (Simmons)  Age   Mar.  Rel    Occu    Where Born
Stephen               33       M     H       Lab    Rodmils, Sussex
Hannah                25       M     W                Ashted,Surrey
Ellen                       2               D                Croydon, Surrey
Alfred                   3mths          S                Croydon, Surrey

I only have written next to the address the number 163 - I assume this is the page number of the district. Further in my notes I have the notation "Did up enumeration district 49" So I beleive this is probably somewhere in the 40's.

Also those Simmons born in from what appears to be Rodmils are:

Abode - '37 Church St, Gum Public House"

Name (Simmons)  Age   Mar.  Rel    Occu    Where Born
Jane                      20                se Servant Roomile, Sussex

This has page no. 101 next to it and is in an earlier district.

Abode - 'Myrtle St West"

Name (Simmons)  Age   Mar.  Rel    Occu    Where Born
Charles                 34      M      H see below Rodmile, Sussex
Joanna                  39      M      W see below  left blank
Anne                       2               D                  Croydon, Surrey

Charles listed as a Wood Crokets (Lab). Joanna as a School Mistress.

The page number (161) appears just before my note of "Did up to enumeration district 49".

Will check a couple of my databases and will revert shortly.

Simmons,George,   26, Poplar, Bow    301       172
Simmons,Sarah,24, Poplar, Bow    301       172
Simmons,George M,3,Poplar, Bow    301       172
Simmons,Rosetta,1,Poplar, Bow    301       172
