Devon / Re: Ann Leach born about 1755 Devon

Thank you.

I looked up the two on google maps and showed a travel time of two hours and 13 minutes.  I failed to note it defaulted to bus as method of transportation.  :P

That was our boy Mico.  We have had five over the years.  Last two lost two years ago within 9 months.  They are wonderful cats.

Devon / Ann Leach born about 1755 Devon

Looking for additional information on my 3rd great-grandmother Ann Leach. Some researchers report birth at  Gilscott Farm, Devon,England  about 1755.  A search for  Gilscott Farm gives no result and messages to the folks that have posted that name have not been returned. Another user reports birth Zeal Monachorum, Devon, England which seems a long distance in 1750s. Again no replies to person posting that location.

On 24 Apr 1774 she marries John Handcock in Coldridge, Devon, England.  That detail is from parish records. No mention of parents. Another parish record reports an Ann Handcock  buried Coldridge  19 Dec 1791 so possibly her but nothing definitive.

A search of Coldridge parish records for a Leach family in 1750s finds nothing but some records from that period are damaged.

A recent search of  England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, 1567-1936 found a  baptism in Plymouth, Devon on 30 May 1754 to George and Ann Leach, Denomination Presbyterian.

I have found records here in Canada that records baptisms that are a central repository of members of a religious  group and the actual birth and/or baptism location is elsewhere.  A report to a central authority so to speak. Are the Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers possibly similar.

Inverness / Re: Donald Clark Birth 14 DEC 1821 • Petty,Inverness,Scotland

Adding the original document that lists the marriage for easier reading hopefully. Still struggling with 1851 Census that has Donald and Jane with daughter Jean and a son Hugh Walter Clark  born about May 1850 in Petty. However, that Donald is listed as born Cawdor, Nairn.

Hugh Walter Clark appears on moray.gov.uk listing father as " DONALD CLARK ARDERSIER"  Hugh dies at  16 HAUGH ROAD INVERNESS 28 Sep 1867  but no additional details.  From Banns we know Donald from Petty, Jane from Ardersier. Would it fit that Hugh's info lists father from Ardersier?

So many Clarks in the area  :)

I am trying to connect the 1891 Canada census to a great granduncle Robert Dunbar

Robert Dunbar
Birth 16 JUL 1831 Keith, Banffshire, Scotland
Death 26 JUN 1913  Clinton,Huron, Ontario, Canada

Various documents report his occupation as bricklayer.  In an 1885 directory he is in Brant County living at the Exchange Hotel  Occupation Brick Layer.  Another directory same year lists occupation Mason

The 1891 census in in Brant and the location seems to be a hotel or rooming house with a Dougald Campbell listed as Hotel Keeper.

I can't decipher the occupation in attached.  It does not seem to be bricklayer.  In 1901 Census he is in Wroxeter , Huron , Ontario, Canada living with relatives and occupation bricklayer

Have you checked the local papers?

Bruce County Museum has digitized many and searchable. A search for William John Johnston gave some results but in 1911.  I will try and search further when more time
