Thank you for William’s obituary in 1903. Curious, who was your 2nd great grandmother who died in 1890?

Margaret Bain (married John Dunbar)
Birth 13 JAN 1798  Keith, Banffshire, Scotland
Death 3 JAN 1890  Wroxeter, Huron County, Ontario, Canada

Have you checked the local papers?

Bruce County Museum has digitized many and searchable. A search for William John Johnston gave some results but in 1911.  I will try and search further when more time

Spoke to the cemetery office recently.  No further information on the Scottish Burial Grounds research.

The cemetery had some students on summer programs for a few years doing marker cleaning and repairs and also excavating the Scottish markers.  That funding dried up.

They had found some of the documents related to the move in 1955 based on a post made to the Cemetery web site but now the document(s)  location is again unknown.

I'm sure not a high priority for the few staff members they have doing day to day business.

Inverness / Re: Donald Clark Birth 14 DEC 1821 • Petty,Inverness,Scotland

Thanks!

Appreciate the link to the map of the area.

"The 1851 Census has a Donald and Jane with daughter Jean and a son Hugh Walter Clark  born about May 1850 in Petty. However, that Donald is listed as born Cawdor, Nairn."  issue is still a puzzle.

Trying some broader searches to see if I can find a birth that fits the Donald Clark on 1851 and 1861 census

Thanks for previous feedback.

While looking for another sibling I happened upon a birth 1 Mar 1849 in Petty of a child Jean with father Donald.  The document does not list a mother.  Donald 1821's mother was Jean so thought that was a possible clue this could be a child in my tree.

The birth (see attached) noted in "something" of Petty.

The 1851 Census has a Donald and Jane with daughter Jean and a son Hugh Walter Clark  born about May 1850 in Petty. However, that Donald is listed as born Cawdor, Nairn.  I have Donald born Petty 14 Dec 1821 and baptized 19 Dec 1821.  The Jane on 1851 census is born Ardersier which fits the  marriage documents.  The 1861 census lists same birth location for that Donald

Would there be any reason for Cawdor, Nairn being listed as birth location?  A search of Scotland's People does not find a birth for a Donald Clark around 1821 nor does FamilySearch.
