Other Countries / Germany: Beanoof, Banback
« on: Tuesday 20 June 17 10:04 BST (UK)  »
Looking for a town(?) called Banback. Have multiple spelling variations:
Banback, Banbach, Barback, Barbach, etc.

Specifically
Ludwig Schubert born circa 1832 in Beanoof, Banback, Prussia, Germany. He also married Ernestine Markoe there at the age of 25.

He died in Australia in 1898 which is where this info is from, hence the bad translation (I'm assuming!)

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Trying to make out the townland names, the registrar often had their own way of spelling placenames but I think the Gill's are from Clonglaskan and the Hodges it looks like Cluin but I think that should be Cloan, they would need further checking.

Richard's mother may also be Sulliavan.

Ah, just figured out that Cluin is the village of Allihies, which is actually a Parish.

Thank you so much Sinann! This will keep me busy for a while.
There is a Richard Hodges born 1866 in the right area his address isn't Allihies. It is possible he gave the name of the nearest town to where his was born people often do this rather than give the name of a small townland.

He ended up in Allihies you see, so yes perhaps he was born somewhere near Allihies. My family still own the farm that he had there, where my great-grandmother was born. Thanks again for your help!  ;D

Update:

I've found some further information which has done nothing but confuse me more! ;D So is the nature of family trees!

I don't have a lot of access to records, which is why I am here obviously.

I have found the following information found on a different forum:

  • Guillaume Allar baptised in Huguenot & Waloon Church, Canterbury on 11th March 1664, parents Guillaume Allar and Jean Soteau.
  • Guillaume Allar (son of Phillipe Allar of Belgium) and Jeanne/Jean Soteau/Choteau (daughter of Thomas Soteau of Chelle near Paris) married July 16th 1653, Canterbury church marriage register

So my question is, who were Antoine's parents?

I can't find any records of the names of Antony/Antoine's parents on the Allar/Lord marriage on Nov 2 1703.

Help  :) :)

London and Middlesex / Antoine Allar/Allart - Huguenot help please!
« on: Saturday 27 May 17 05:17 BST (UK)  »
Some records I have:

  • Guillaume Allar (male) christened Feb 24 1706 - Threadneedle Street French Huguenot, London, London, England (Guillaume/William- this guy is my direct line. I'm aware he has siblings)
    Parents Anton and Marie Allar
  • Antony Allar and Mary Lord married Nov 2, 1703 in Middlesex, England

I am looking for information on Antony/Anton/Antoine, and where he came from. It's pretty clear to me that he married Mary Lord, who was not a Huguenot. Which is pretty cool!

I believe he had a brother named Isaac and it is possible that they moved to England together from France. Their parents may be named Jacques and Madeline (Beste). If anyone can prove this that would be greatly appreciated! I've hit a dead end. I'd love to know where Antoine came from and his refuge story.

Thanks in advance

London and Middlesex / Re: Joseph Hulbert (c. 1793-1878) Huguenot or not?
« on: Monday 15 August 16 05:02 BST (UK)  »
NASH is definitely not Huguenot!

Actually I could very well be wrong about this. I just found an entry for NASH (1700s LND ENG) on a Huguenot surnames index: https://www.aftc.com.au/Huguenot/Hug.html that doesn't actually prove anything at all, but it might be a clue. Smudwhisk, could you please do a search for NASH on the Hospital register? Thanks in advance. ;D
