Thanks for the help I'll dig out the papers on the weekend I was hoping some one would no but if I put the paper work up may be some my no but thanks for all your help I'm waiting for the rest of his records to come to me I'm hoping it with have his date of birth as I can then rule out some of the other willam murphy I have found

It was his demobilisation paper it says he is 25 11 months no date of birth but document date 15/3/1912 but on a nother paper I have says he joined at the age of 19 1904 and parish st kevin's dublin.my father told me his father william murphy was a orphen so if he was baptised in St kevin's I have done research and got it down to a posible 8 at the moment but if that's the parish he lived in he may of been baptised any were in dublin

The Web site is royal - irish. Com it's change since I was last on it so they have up dated it .and I take your point there was no republic of ireland I was just trying to explain that they have the records from the south of ireland service records

I found not much on irish regiments but there is a museam in northern ireland holds a lot of records of republic ireland soldiers but if you find the person you are looking for they charge £28 to find his service record and give you  a copy if you have any medals or no who has his service number is on the back

I've found part of my grandad william murphy records service number 7743 can't find his date of birth but it says he was from st kevin's parish is that place of baptism or were he was living any one help please
