Thank you so much. I am thrilled to be able to learn so much about this piece. Even happier that I can share it :)

Thank you! It really is brilliant. Unfortunately I don't know the date :( I wonder if a guess at the date could be made by looking at the clothes of the people in the sketches?

Would be really interested to read what people think of this. Is it handwriting practice? A nonsensical poem. Not even very sure how to read it! Is it a box at a time, or by line? Any thoughts to what the date could be?

I love it whatever it is :)

There is another word that I am not sure of. Any ideas?

Come try your wit

Is it I'll lay a pot? - Not entirely sure what that means!

I am struggling to read a word in a verse from a hand written poem called 'Wit and Folley in Amaizement

The verse in the poem reads:
Which pleased me wonder *****
away quite from me fell
as I had once before
and play the fool no more

It looks like 'ous well' to me. Could that be right? Any ideas as to what the word is after wonder? Any suggestions gratefully appreciated. Thank you :)

The Duke of Northumberland letter is actually one that I have already transcribed. You can read about it here http://caswellfamilychest.familyhistoryhunter.co.uk/2016/07/16/letter-to-the-duke-of-northumberland-from-william-charlton-17th-november-1821/

Maybe you will find some of your relatives mentioned in William Charlton's diary - I have copied the whole thing and he travels extensively around the area. It is really interesting to read :)
