Yes indeed. Thanks for adding that very pertinent comment.
I fully agree that the LIBINDX is a most valuable resource, and MBGRG works closely with Moray Council, and we link to that particular resource on our website.
The 1978/9 survey is now some 30 years old of course, and MBGRG is engaged in recording and updating all available MI information for Moray burial sites, some of which are not included in the LIBINDX, (including 'buried tombstones, many of which have never been recorded elsewhere), and publishing the results in 'as exactly recorded on the stone' detail.
Both sites are therefore worthy of the attention of the serious researcher ...

Re reference to the Moray Burial Ground Research Group website  (www.mbgrg.org) in the above post.
This site contains abstracted data from Elgin Cathedral Churchyard, NOT Elgin Cemetery.
The latter, contains some 5,000 stones, and work has not yet started on transcribing the monumental inscriptions as of Dec 2009

You might also find it useful to have a look at The Moray Burial Ground Research Group Site - the have indices for some churchyards, and also buried tomstones.

Moray (Elginshire) / Re: Barbara RUSSELL - born abt. 1825 Fochabers, Moray

Oops - yes you can look up the OPR's on Scotland's People, but there are no images available - only the index. I had a quick scan, but no sign of your Barbera in Parish of Bellie, to which Fochabers belongs. Try various spellings of Russell !

Fochabers, a small county town, lies some 13 km south east of Elgin, close to the river Spey.
You'll find a location map at www.mbgrg.org, and might find the rest of the site interesting too.
Cheers

You will have to search the Old Parish Records for Barbara's birth or christening - Scotland's People includes 1855 and later events only.
Also try the IGI - one possible (though 25 years out!) would be:
BARBARA RUSSELL
 Birth:  02 MAY 1850
Christening:  18 MAY 1850   Elgin, Moray, Scotland
 Parents:
  Father:  ALEXANDER RUSSELL  Family
  Mother:  MARGARET CLARK

Hope this of some help
