Australia / Re: SWANs in Sydney 1852 - when did they arrive?
« on: Friday 23 January 09 20:12 GMT (UK)  »
The Swanns may have worked for David Crombie who rented Kilminning Framhouse, Crail. His son James emigrated to Australia on the Typhoon arriving Melbourne 4 March 1853. Another son William emigrated to Australia arriving on the Turon in Victoria on 7 January 1858.

I would be interested in any Swann Crombie relationship or did the Swanns just name their children after Crombie and his wife Jessie Webster?

England / Re: Amount of time between a birth and christening?

I have an ancestor, Wallace Nash, who was born abt. 1858.

I found a Wallace Nask on www.familysearch.org who was christened in 1863. The place looks right, as do the names of his paretns. The only thing putting me off is that amount of time between the two dates.

The other thing to think of is, did child 1 die young and are you looking at the baptism of child 2? Quite common to use the same name again.

    >> Photographs of Shrewsbury offer, Shropshire
I have a digital camera and am willing to take photographs for anyone doing family research in Shrewsbury.

Does the Dogpole Chapel still exist? and would you be passing? My g-grandfather was pastor there (and if you are near the KSLI barracks, I was a young soldier there 40 years ago, my father was there in 1918)

I can't match any of the first names you mention though I do have the same surnames >>TURNBULL / VEITCH /  ELLIOT / MURRAY<< in the same area. Have a look at www.sewellgenealogy.com and see if anything rings a BELL - That's a family I need more on <g>
