Hi Trish
A family contact in Canada also searching sent me a copy of his marriage certificate. We don't know his parents names.
On the marriage certificate his fathers and his mothers name is not stated. Neither is his place of birth, date of birth or age. We can find no death record for him in Nsw either. Contact in Canada remembers one of her passed relatives saying he walked out on his family and they never saw or heard from him again. Whether this is true or not we don't know. Things have a way of being distorted over time.
Thanks for replying.
Cheers

Australia Lookups completed / Germany to Australia
« on: Thursday 15 December 05 11:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to find information on German relatives. There have been quite a few members of this family tree searching as well but we have had no luck.
My Gt Gt Gt Grandfather was Johann Gottlieb Lotze married to Joanna Louise Hellman. Johann was born in Hamburg Germany, Johanna we don't know. They were married in Germany. We have found a death record for Joanna in Australia but none for Johann leaving us to believe he may have died in Germany and Joanna came to Australia with her children. The first son Jacob William was born circa 1824 in Germay, second son Edward (Eduart) also born in Germany, daughter Marie Louise we don't know. Jacob William arrived on the San Francisco in 1852 so we assume Mother and siblings did too.
As I am new to family research any suggestions on how to proceed tracing them in Germany would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Ruth

Australia / Re: Aitken/Cairns family line
« on: Thursday 15 December 05 11:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I've just come across you're post.
I'm from Nsw and in my family tree I have an Alan Aitken Cairns born 1944.
I don't know where he was born or who his parents are. He married Elizabeth Linton-Smith in 1965 in Nsw.
Are these any relation to your Aitken/Cairns?
Thanks
Ruth

Hi Chrissy
I don't know if you've had any luck with your search yet but you asked if there was any reason a marriage couldn't be found.
I had the same problem with my great grandparents. Searched high and low and eventually mentioned it to my uncle who is now nearing 80. He said that back in earlier times it wasn't uncommon for a couple to just make their vows in front of friends and family ( I guess something like a marriage celebrant these days). When this happened the marriage wasn't always registered. My great grandparents were definitely married, he told me, but their marriage was never registered. Maybe the same thing happened in your family.
Cheers

Australia / Linden

Hi
Looking for a Clarence William Linden. Born in England circa 1853. Came to Austalia and married Martha Rebecca Churchill in 1872 at Mudgee Nsw. Moved to Hill End. Had 5 children, Clarence William Henry, Martha Rebecca, Florence F, Samuel Frederick and Arthur E.
Have other details on wife and children but Clarence seems to have disappeared. Contact in Canada also searching for him.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Ruth from Yenda NSW
