New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: McGregor - Thames Coromandel
« on: Sunday 06 February 22 19:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

My name is Bronwyn and my Great, Great, Great Grandmother was also Hohipaea Nga Puhi. We have one image of her with the Moko dressed in European clothing. We would really like to learn more about her and where her and Alexander Mcgregor may be buried. Hohipaea is the link to our Maori heritage in our family history. We have information that she was a Maori Chiefness but are unsure if this is true. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you:)

Hi Bronwyn,
I tried to PM your but it says your inbox is full. I'm also a descendant of Hohipaea and wondering if you would be so kind as to share a copy of the photo you mention with me as I don't believe i've seen it before and would love too.
P.S Kia Ora whanau :) my lineage;
-Hohipaea and Alex. James McGregor
- James/Hemi Alex. McGregor and Heneti Te Ohaere
- Lena/Rina Kitemate McGregor and John/Jack Savage
- My Nana was Christina Savage who married Ivor Birt

Thanks everyone who has shared on this thread, some great reading!

Effie McLeod--- I can't find a trace of MacLeods in Deerness which i found in Orkney-- Re: Effie (Euphemia ) obituary. My guess would be- it could be a typo -- and should be Durness, Sutherland- north of Assynt. It is where the prominent Ross family is from - Archibald married Peggy Ross/ they were owners of Ross ferry across from Big Harbour- William Ross- rich merchant - Roderick- norman's son in law---
 Durness.... Ross/ McKenzie family had many children- quite a few and nephew neices tied up with migration-- geographically I don't look more than 6 or 7 farms away to find -- people.

https://novascotia.ca/natr/land/indexmaps/123.pdf  look at Big Harbour and you will see Choan Stewart. the piece of land across is a mcleod who bought it from Duncan prince MacKenzie who built the highand lass etc... you will see many others on the ship lists.

Hello Bev,
It's Jessie McInnes here, I got your book right before you left NZ to go back to Nova Scotia if you remember, (thanks again) my daughter is a Stewart from Archibalds line ;) it's me who posted this original thread. Thanks a lot for your input!
That land map is super interesting to me!!!
Thanks to everyone helping to gather information it really means a lot, I'm fairly new to this level of research so I have no idea where to start for most things I want to know! Very much appreciate all the leads :)

Australia / Arabella "Annabella" Mitchell (born McLeod) .b1871
« on: Thursday 09 March 17 02:59 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking info on my G-G-Grandmother Arabella "Annabella" Mitchell (born McLeod) (b.1871-d.?) She married Alfred Mitchell June 9 1890 in Victoria Australia at the residence of John Mitchell, witnesses John Mitchell and Annie MacKay (Arabellas Cousin)

Arabella and Alfred Mitchell had two children together who were adopted out to Christina Annie McInnes (born Ross) and John Alexander McInnes in NZ after their marriage dissolved. The children were; my great grandfather Leslie Angus MITCHELL McInnes (b.1894 Wagga Wagga Australia - d.1979 whangarei) and Maud Anabella MITCHELL McInnes (b. 1986 Glenfell, NSW, Australia)

 There is a story that Arabella visited my G-Grandfather Leslie while he was in the army at trentham, he would never speak about this visit or anything about his birth mother so the family has no idea where Arabella ended up, if she had any more children or where she is buried.

 Leslie's son Ken McInnes' wife Joan was a genealogist and searched many years for info on Arabella wihout much luck, my Aunty has carried on the search and now me. I will attach below Arabellas direct family as I know it;

 Mother: Arabella McLeod (Born Matheson) b.1848 d.1872 (so Arabella was very very young when her mother died)

Father:  John McAllister McLeod b.1836 Nova Scotia d.1905 Kauri, NZ

sisters (all born McLeod) : Jane Dawson, Annie Finlayson, Margaret "meg" Andre

Brother: Alexander McLeod

 Any leads will be hugely appreciated ❤️

Regards, Jessie McInnes

Canada / Choan Kenneth Stewart and his first wife Anna Macpherson

Hi everyone, I'm looking for any info on Choan (also seen spelled Coan) Kenneth STEWART born C1782 Ullapool, Scotland and his first wife Anna MACPHERSON is of particular interest to me as I can't find anything on her. They had two sons Archibald (1815-1895) and Alexander both born in Scotland. I know Archibald married his wife Margaret Ross in Nova Scotia C1845. Archibald, Alexander and families sailed on the "spray" to NZ and settled in Hakaru in 1857. And although their father Choan was believed part owner of the "spray" he sailed to NZ from NS aboard "Breadalbane" with his second wife Ephemia "effy" McLeod and settled in whangarei heads. I'd love to know what happened to Choans first wife Anna MacPherson in between all of this, I have no birthdate or information on her besides a name. No idea if she was alive when they left Scotland for Nova Scotia. I also haven't been able to find any solid leads that go back further than Choan Stewart if anyone knows his parents etc any help would be appreciated!! Thanks for reading :)

I have also posted this on NZ immigration board and was told I should put it up here too, link to other board is http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=766484.0

Thank you Lu! I didn't have that so really appreciate it. Apparently Choan and Effy married in Nova Scotia but I'm struggling to find any proof.. and without any dates for Anna Macpherson I'm struggling to find her in Scotland  ::) gah haha
