Aberdeenshire / Andersons in Monquitter
« on: Saturday 20 January 24 19:16 GMT (UK)  »
I have five generations of Andersons going back to the mid 16th Centruy who were blacksmiths laterly at the Castle of Auchy, in Monquitter.
My 2X great grandfather James Dick Anderson moved to Edinburgh in his old age....
My great Aunt Hellen Anderson (nee Hay) moved newbattle as a companion to Margaret Craig...
My great mother Espeth Anderson married James Duncan (Blacksmith) moved to Glasgow in 1875...
My grandfather died of TB in 1883 at Hellen's house in Newbattle...My grandmother Gemima Hellen Hay Duncan (nee Glass) was born 5 months after her father died in January 1884
Her brother William Anderson (blacksmith) came as well...
Does anyone know of the Andersons in Monquitter?

I see that one of the people who replied to the Swan & Lindsay queries has  the 1841 census for Burntisland could I ask her to check the name GLASS I have most of the family from then but a few are missing.

I have a Margaret Glass who married William Swan in 1802 and an Ann Lindsay who married John Glass in 1857

Thank you for your help.
Is the plinth still there?
I have found out a lot more now but can I ask for a bit more information?

I have worked out that my great-grandmother Elspeth Andersons's sister Hellen Hay nee Anderson was a servant to Margaret Craig at Craigash and her husband James hay was the mills joiner. They moved to New Monkland when the paper mil l moved there. However another of the Andersons also moved to Newbattle then vanished are there any Anderson graves in the churchyard?
My grandad died at 7 Lothian Bridge which on the census is Craigash. Are there any photos of the house?

Graveyards and Gravestones / find a grave
« on: Saturday 20 February 21 17:57 GMT (UK)  »
My great grandfather James Duncan (born 1850 in Rothsay) died in 1883 in Newbattle near Dalkieth. He was from Glasgow but was nursed through TB by his pregnant wife and her family.
My question is why can't I find his grave?
Cremation did not come in in Scotland until 1890. The death notice is in the Glasgow Herald but does not mention a funeral or burial.
There is no record of probate either....Any ideas?
