Hi Vicky,

I would be interested in seeing a photo of Bhylls cottages, can you paste it to this page ?

regards Kizzy   :)
Hi Kizzy
I would love to but I'm being a numpty and can't see how on this interface! When I click on the 'Attachments and other options' link, it does not bring up the expected menu of being able to browse for a file. If you could either explain where I'm going wrong, please, or PM me with your email address, hopefully I can get the photo to you!
Many thanks
Vicky

Hi alltcafan

Apologies for the delay in responding to your message ... internet issues!

Once again you have come up trumps, that info is fantastic and has 'opened a can of worms' ... thank you so so much for all your help, you are a real star.

Kindest Regards
Nimchimpsky
Hi
On researching the history of the house I live in, Stansall Griffiths came up as having lived here (Gilfach Farm, Whitton). You may find it referred to as "Gilver" or even "Gilva" in census records, etc). If you don't live locally, I wondered if you would like a photo of the house?  Apart from windows having been replaced, but copying their original style, I doubt it has altered that much. Also, I could send you a photo of the church where they would be buried if you wish (I will try to find the graves mentioned, but sadly many of the older ones are now illegible).

Staffordshire / Re: Merry Hill, Staffordshire

There is a Pub in Wolverhampton called 'The Merry Hill'. It is where what I think is now called the "Five Ways" junction of  Trysull Road, Finchfield Road, Bhylls Lane, Langley Road, and (I think) Coalway Road. The trolley buses from Wolverhampton town centre used to turn round at this junction, and go back into town. I think the area was Penn Fields.
This was before the Merry Hill Shopping Centre was built.

Just for clarification - no, Penn Fields was a different area. You're referring to Merry Hill itself. I used to catch the trolley bus to town there when I was growing up in Bhylls Lane and there would frequently be a delay while the trolley was put back on the cable after their parting company negotiating the roundabout! :)

Hi
As this was an old post which I chanced upon, you probably don't need the information now, but I was born at Bhylls Farm and have a photo of it if you would like one? I lived there until it was compulsorily purchased by the council around 1958/59. I think it was originally two cottages (Bhylls Cottages?) and had been knocked into one. It had gardens, a lovely orchard (lived on fruit from it growing up as rationing was still on!), stables, pig sties, barns and other outbuildings. It was more the size of a smallholding than a farm really. Bellencroft (a large, redbrick house owned by a Miss Lawrie) adjoined its boundary. It was very old and I doubt had changed much from when your relative lived there (I'm sure the plumbing hadn't anyway!  :). Incidentally, if it aids your search, its address when we lived there was: Bhylls Farm, 67 Bhylls Lane, Lower Penn, Wolverhampton.
Hope that helps and if you have any questions about it, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Vicky
