Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Jane Faichen of Wolvercote
« on: Monday 19 November 18 17:40 GMT (UK)  »
When you said her father was Thomas Faichen i suspected that may be the case but thought it was worth mentioning. I expect you have looked at Wolvercote transcripts too but just in case.....
OFHS CD
I can not find a baptism for Jane Faichen but there is the following entry.
1806
Jane dr of Ann Fteching, base born April 6
(the t is crossed out and t inserted between the e & c to read Fetching which is pretty close phonetically).
No other entries for this name but Faichen baptisms do start in 1804.

Familysearch.org shows the banns for the 1848 marriage to Attwood. You can view the original from there and that shows them as both being widowed. This would imply that Faichen was her 1st married name and not her maiden name.

Hi Rachael
From Find my Past Newspapers. Bucks Herald 18 September 1841. Preferements & Appointments.
The Rev. John Jones, M.A., Precentor of Christ Church, and Vicar of St. Thomas, Oxford, has been presented by the Lord Chancellor to the Vicarage of Nevern, Pembrokeshire, void by the death of the Rev, D.T.H. Williams.

By following up on "Nevern" he was
Born 10.2.1792 Bala to Henry and Catherine Jones
Died 2.5.1852 and was buried at Nevern.

Plenty more abt him on internet but his work in St Thomas seems sadly lacking.

Best wishes
Maggie

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Samuel Waters - Baptism - Bloxham
« on: Saturday 22 December 12 19:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Nigel

I have two unconnected (as yet) Lines family branches but they come from Chipping Warden and Sibford Ferris. I also have a Waters marrying into my tree. Johnathan Rogers m Mary Waters in Wardington in 1780. She was not baptised in Wardington.

Back to Bloxham, starting with burials.

Only 3 for the name WALTER
1723 Elizabeth wife of William of Wickham
1767 William ext. Par.
1776 Mary

For WATERS
1661/2 John a stranger

Then nothing until 1811-William & Mary-illegitimate children-due to measels.
Regular burials but nothing after 1912. I've included the following in case it helps.

18.5.1832 Hannah 83 Bloxham
18.1.1842 John 82 Bloxham from Union
22.4.1872 Samuel 77 Bloxham
2.6 1876 Maria 77 Bloxham

Bloxham marriages:

Only one under WALTER

23.4.1740 Wheeler John of Adderbury     Lic
                Walter Eliz: of ye same

Only 2 under WATERS in 1860 & 65

No other obvious variants in the indexes.

Best Wishes
Maggie

Hi Nigel

From OFHS parish transcripts for Bloxham:

Marriage 11.3.1831 xWaters Samuel otp bach     Banns
x Dry Maria same parish widow
Wit xThomas Thornton  x Kezia Waters  Joseph Barns

Maria didn't marry Mr Dry in Bloxham and there are no burials there for Dry.

The baptisms in the name of Waters really start in 1806 with just one odd one in 1661.

Looking at variations on the surname I found the following cluster of baptisms for WALTERS:

25.12.1785 Elizabeth d John
22.10.1786 Anne d John
30.3.1788   Mary d John
7.2.1790     Hannah d John
30.3.1792   Rhoda d John
25.12.1793 John s John
21.8.1795   Samuel s John & Hannah
17.3.1797   Kezia d John & Hannah

As there is a Kezia Waters as a witness at Samuels' wedding it looks like this is your family.

Do you want all the Waters bmd's for Bloxham?

Happy Christmas

Maggie

Hi

d is the abbreviation in the transcripts for daughter.

I can only assume Bengman could be Benjamin
