Thank you both so much! You are too kind.  ;D

You know it's funny, my Mom grew up in her grandmother Kate, Hannah's daughter's household. So, from age two to age 22 she was with her, yet she's told me that she doesn't know anything about her great grandmother Hannah because they just didn't talk about things like that back then! It has made me so curious about her life prior to coming to the US.

So, I don't know whether Hannah came to the US with family or not (my gut tells me not)  and she was never naturalized so there are no papers for that. I did find a few Hannah Morrisey's on passenger lists, so I should take a look at those again.

Ballydw, I do not have a copy of her death certificate, but will order one. I have copies for some other Irish relatives who came to Maine and only Ireland is listed as birthplace and not much more, but it is worth a shot if  her mother's maiden name appears. She predeceased her husband so there is a chance of that. Thank you for the suggestion.  :D

Padraig, I had seen Ellen Riordan's name associated with John Morrisey, but  now feel more confident with your research that I was headed in the right direction. Your noodling has provided me with some wonderful information and greatly reduced some of my frustration! You have been extremely generous. I can't thank you enough for following the trail. I will investigate the links and order some certificates as well.  :D

Take Care,

Judy

So, I followed up on your helpful suggestion to look at the 1901 census. In Wilkinstown, (Whitechurch, Wexford) there is a married couple by the name of John and Ellen Morrisey, ages 60 and 56.

I was hopeful as the names and religion were correct, but it seems that these people are too young. If Hannah was perhaps their first child and we went with 1858 as her birth year (which is on some census forms) then John and Ellen would have been 17 and 14 when she was born.

Plus, if John's occupation is listed as farmer would it not be unlikely for him to relocate from Cork if we assume he had been a farmer there?

Am I looking at this the right way?  ???

The only other info I have regarding her death is that she died at home after a short bout of pneumonia.

One possible family lead I have is that in the 1910 US Census her nephew, John Fitzgerald, approximate dob 1889 was living with them. The information was taken in April and it is written in that he had just arrived.

Perhaps, the child of sister? He as well as his parents have Ireland listed as birthplace. I am guessing that is a very common name.

Thanks for your response.  :)

I'd appreciate any assistance you could provide in helping me trace my great great grandmother Hannah Morrisey. I only have information about her once she reached the US.

I know that she was born in Cork, Ireland possibly on November 6, 1860. According to the Boston Ma marriage registry she married John Deetjen on February 2, 1874 at age 17. (ages don't quite match up)The registry lists her parents as John and Ellen.

I don't know if she had any siblings or who might have immigrated around 1873 with her. After marrying John they soon moved to Portland,Me where she gave birth to 21 (that is not a typo!) children. She died in Portland on November 5, 1924.

Thank you for reading this.  :)

Hi John,

That would be great! I'll send you a pm. I think I need a few more posts before I'm allowed to do that.

Hello!

I just joined the forum and this is my first post.  :) I realize that this is an old thread, but the names Joseph Glass and Maggie Kane appear in my family tree. My great great grandmother was their daughter, Katie.

I've just recently immersed myself in genealogy and would love to learn more about the family and learn if there are distant relations on the board.

Thank you!
