my grandmother's last name is Daskaluk, but apparently that was how it was translated when she got to montreal or she didn't know who to spell it.  I found that she had a juvenille file from 1929 and on it her name was Duskalouh or Dasklak.  funny that you mention hiding soldiers, because in the onset of her alzheimers, she mentioned having people hiding under her balcony.  She was born in 1916 and according to the 1929 court file, she was motherless.  I will have to dig out her birth certificate to verify her parents names.
