Hi Yes I have that. Eliza Emily was my mums grandma and family story was that he died in Ireland not from injury but from an operation for a bunion.
She is listed as a widow on remarriage in 1877 to James Holden and a widow in 1978 when she married James Cudworth.
Just wondered where Greenwood Stotts death would be listed it he was in British Army serving in Ireland

Ireland / Greenwood Stott

My great grandmothers first husband was Greenwood Stott. He was a soldier in the Dragoon Guards. They had their second  child in Waterford Ireland @1875.  She remarried in 1877 in Lancashire. In 1871 census they lived at Maidstone Kent and it says he was born in Todmorden Yorkshire. On wedding certificate 1870 he says father is Charles Greenwood.
Do not know what happened to Greenwood Stott. Not on Lancashire or Yorkshire death index.

Thank you for quick reply. I was asked this question by a Genes Reunited member in Australia. My McNeils came from  Ardnamurchan and you have previously given me help in finding family there. So thanks again. I am not sure how near these two places are.

This is interesting because our McNeil`s come from Ardnamurchan, Inverness shire Scotland. We have Angus born 1775 a wheelwright and his father also Angus @1750 a shepherd. I have been unable to go any further back but assumed the Ardnamurchan McNeil`s probably came from Barra.  Since at that time transport would be by sea it is also possible they came from Northern Island.

United States of America / Re: Emigrants to USA about 1860

Thank you both for replies. I have information for Martha until her marriage and for rest of family after, but was unable to solve family mystery of what became of Martha after emigrating. A clue that Thomas had a son born in New Jersey suggests he went out to join her for a time. I looked for John Bell in ancestry .com but found too many.
Also I was unsure of what state in USA I should look. I have no information on John Cordener Bell except marriage and likelihood that he was a soldier, as Colchester was a barrack town as was Aldershot.
Eliza Emily her sister also eloped with a soldier.

Martha Ann Greenwood born Colchester 1842 married John Cordener Bell 22 Oct 1860 Aldershot then emigrated to America. In 1867 her sister Eliza Emily was going to be sent to America to look after Martha`s children however Eliza(my ggrandmother) eloped to avoid this. I cant find any records for Martha and John or their children. I was told that they lived near Pawtucket. I find Martha`s brother Thomas Bagnall Greenwood (Colchester 1881 census) has a son born Jersey City America about 1873. But can find no records in UK for Martha but don't know how to look in USA

My gg grandmother Eliza Greenwood eloped with a soldier from Colchester barracks (James Stott)between 1867 and 1872. They had 2 children 1 born Warwick England @1872 and 2nd born Waterford ireland 1875.
James died in Ireland and Eliza Stott remarried in 1877 in Rochdale Lancashire.
I found birth of Fred G Stott in Ireland @1875 but am unable to find other information on what James did there. Cant find their marriage or James death. But have later records census etc for Eliza and family 1881.
