Re: Lt Arthur Turnbull RAMC.  Are you aware of the story reported in the Daily Telegraph of 30 March 1916 about Lt Turbull's "invasion" of the House of Commons to demonstrate about providing protection for the heads of British soldiers from shrapnel fire.  He had recently returned from Malta where I presume he had been dealing with British casualties from Gallipoli.

My paternal grandfather Otto V Payne was granted a temporary commission in the Army Medical Service  on 1 June 1917.  He relinquished his commission as a Temporary Captain on 14 February 1919, after which he went back to his GP practice in Alton Hampshire. His medal card from the National Archives states that the theatre of war first served in was Salonika and date of entry therein was 14 August 1917.  He might have gone out to Salonika with one of the many General Hospitals formed and sent there to cope with the high incidence of sickness particularly malaria, and enemy submarine interference with evacuation of sick and wounded by sea.  Any information from your list would be gratefully received.
Richard Vaughan-Payne.
