Regarding the Mahers residing in Rathmacan... is there a method for contacting them?  Postal addresses or email would be very handy.

Kilkenny / Maher Ancestors from Rathmacan
« on: Thursday 16 May 13 21:38 BST (UK)  »
My grandfather, William Joseph MAHER (1863-1945) was born in Rathmacan, Co Kilkenny, and immigrated to the USA in the mid-1880s.  He settled in Omaha, Nebraska and married Catherine McSHANE (1864-1941) in 1891.  She was born in Loughross/Crossmaglen, Co Armagh.  They had seven children, all of whom I have covered well in the descendancy.  I have been able to trace the McShane side back to my g-g-grandparents.  The Kilkenny info is sketchy.  Family stories relate that William's parents were Michael and Mary (nee Maher) MAHER.  I have a paiinting (attached) of them that my grandfather had painted from a snapshot.  I got it because my name is Michael and my father's name was Michael.  I would like any assistance, contacts, connections, etc, etc to aid in tracing this ancestry.  Obituaries, grave sites, newspaper clippings, photos, and/or anything related will be highly appreciated.

Armagh / McShane Ancestry - Loughross/Crossmaglen

Looking for the ancestors of my great-grandparents and gg-grandparents.

My g-grandfather was Patrick McShane (c.1810-10 May 1895) from Loughross/Crossmaglen.  He married Anne Callaghan (c.1837-29 Apr 1903) on 27 Dec 1855 in Crossmaglen.  They had nine children: Mary, James, Catherine (my grandmother), Anne, Alice, Ellen, Margaret, Rose and Bridget.   I am looking for any information regarding Anne Callaghan's parents and ancestors.

I am also searching for any ancestors of my gg-grandfather.  He was James McShane (c.1870-20 May 1862).  He married Margaret Bowden (c.1780-8 Sep 1853) on 14 Jul 1799 in Upper Creggan Parish, Crossmaglen.   They had eight children: Catherine, Mary, Margaret, James, Frans, Patrick (my g-grandfather), Felix, and Eleoner.  I am particularly interested in any information regarding Margaret Bowden's parents and ancestors.

Appreciate any information or sources anyone might have available.

Thanks, Mike

Have no idea if there is a connection...  My grandfather was William Joseph Maher (1863-1945) from ? Ireland.  Family stories say his parents were Michael and Mary Maher and I hold a portrait of them because my name is Michael.  This has been a brick wall since I started genealogy.  William married Catherine McShane from Loughross/Crossmagen, County Armagh, in Sep 1891 in Omaha, Nebraska.  Her ancestors I have been able to trace but ol' William is a mystery.  Any leads will be appreciated.
