Hi, we are descedants of Ellen Margaret Toomey who was married to John Grimes, a convict in tasmania.
Ellen was born in Phillidelphia, England.(not america)
Phillidelphia is in a county now called Tyne and Wear.
Originally called Newcastle on Tyne. Near the border of scotland.
Ellen came to Hobart( tasmania) on a boat named Boadecia in about 1832.
Mainly young women were on board to serve as housemaids and brides for convicts.
John grimes had formally been married to Mary Little, a female convict.
She died and left him with a child named Harriett.
Ellen married john mainly to care for Harriett.
