Hi

I also have Parlett ancestors and I have a Samuel Parlett son of Philip Parlet and Mary Spinks (the spelling of the surname is not consistent) privately baptised on 21 Oct 1786 in the Stoke Ferry parish registers. Are you connected to this family?

Many thanks for this - I will send for the certificate to see who the informant is - maybe I will be lucky and it will be the wife!
Cheers
Gail

Hi Neil
Thanks for your reply.
It is William Colling I am after - this is the spelling on his daughter Jane's marriage certificate - yes in a number of other documents the spelling alternates as often happens at a time where informants can't always write their own names. Jane signed her marriage certificate with her mark so this is the spelling recorded by the curate.
I am trying the eliminate other men named William Colling who were around at the same time - I have found another who is a shoemaker, with wife Jane also with a daughter Jane but he is still alive after the date of Jane's marriage so was able to eliminate him. There is another who is a seaman, widower aged 56 who is recorded as born in Hartlepool. There are a number of children with him - but not Jane. So my search continues.
Thanks
Gail
Thanks

Hi Sue

I also have William Colling, a master mariner born Sunderland who died before 1854. William is my 3 x great grandfather.
I have a date of birth of 19 April 1804 from his Master & Mates Certificate which was issued on 20 Jan 1851 so I am presuming he is alive at this time. On 23 May 1854 his daughter Jane Colling marries William Booker in Sunderland and has father William Colling, Master Mariner deceased.
I do not know if your William is the same as my William but there seem to be alot of similarities.
Any help greatly received.
cheers
Gail
