John Ryan was my great grandfather. We know he changed his name from Ruane  to Ryan upon arrival in New York ~1880.  He married Mary Hunt in Brooklyn in 1884.  His marriage certificate and death certificate indicate that Michael "Ryan" (Ruane) and Catherine Kerins were his parents.  His obituary confirms that he was from Kilmovee Parish in Mayo and one of 9 children.  I have looked extensively through the Kilmovee baptismal records, and have found entries for the 9 children of Michael Ruane and Catherine Kerins from Carabeg townland born between 1854 and 1870:  John, Michael, Ann, Patrick, Thomas, Jane, Catherine, Mary and Bernard.  I have also determined that my great-grandmother Mary Hunt was from Carabeg as well.

I believe at least Mary Ruane b. 1869 also emigrated to America  and married Michael Holian.  I have found a tree on Ancestry.com that shows Mary Holian being the daughter of Michael "Rowan" and Catherine Kerins.  Notes from my deceased father indicate matching names of lost 2nd cousins  from this family.

I have a family tree on Ancestry that shows a lot of the supporting documentation.

Look forward to chatting more.

Chris

Your post was a long time ago, but I believe I am related to the Ruane family that you have found in the baptismal record: "Joanne" Ruane is "Ionnes" or Latin for John, my Great-grandfather.  I believe his sister Maria Ruane emigrated to America and married a Michael Holian.
