Hi Costley111,

Apologies, I have just seen your post.

I will need to look back on my research. I have been doing much the last few years.

I'll get back to you about John Costley.

Take care

S

Thanks for this post Sinann. I would have missed this otherwise.
I had read up about the 1926 census and it not being released early. I am surprised there hasn't been a petition sooner.

Signed & shared! ;)

I've tried just concentrating my research on Catherine or Eliza Ann (name variants, wildcard, BMD, immigration etc)...nothing on Irish Genealogy, FamilySearch, Ancestry...
But maybe it's worth starting afresh and going over information again. There's so much of it, it's very possible I've missed things along the way.

Thank you for all your time and suggestions. It has brought to light some of the weaker areas of my research I need to go back on.

Ah yes William James, this one isn't him...but I remember coming across him during my research. William James is my 2x great grandfather  ;D...
He and his sister Ellen were working for the Irvine family (house 30 Magheramesk) http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Magheramesk/Magheramesk/999623/

Margaret/Maggie was already married by 1901

Not sure for certain but I think this is where George was in 1901

And as I've said earlier, Thomas was living with his parents in Magheramesk in 1901.

I suspect Catherine & Eliza Ann could/should have been married by 1901 based on age.
On the Irish Genealogy site, more recent birth indexes also show the mother's maiden name which helped me find out more about Margaret, her husband & children, but this strategy hasn't worked for Catherine or Eliza Ann. Perhaps they didn't have children during the 1900s.

John Costley was still living in 1901. He died in 1907. On the 1901 census, John & Eliza were living in Magheramesk (house 1) with their son Thomas and a visitor (Margaret Cassidy - 80 yrs old). Thomas was 11, their only child living with them, so I was thinking he could be their last.

Yes, that's the one. They do transcribe it as 8. Thank you for confirming this. On the digitalised image of the record there is a squiggle.

Calculating the time between the birth of the orher children (Catherine (11/07/1875), Margaret (04/1877), Eliza Ann (15/04/1879), William James (07/10/1881), George (22/10/1883), Ellen (01/09/1886), Thomas (04/01/1890)), I think the other child must have been born either between George & Ellen / Ellen & Thomas / after Thomas.

Hi Hallmark,

Thank you for your help and the links you have provided.

Other than Catherine & Eliza Ann's entries of birth, I haven't found anything else about them on the Irish Genealogy website and nothing matching a possible 8th child for John and Eliza Jane, although I only have a baptism record for Margaret, so perhaps something similar for this 8th one.

Did look through posts on the forum for anything on Costley's but nothing matched, but won't hurt to look again. Maybe I missed something.

I modified my earlier post to attach the census (had to modify the format). What do you think? Before finding out about Margaret, I thought it looked like 6 not 8.

BallyaltikilliganG,

Thank you for replying to my post and for all the information. I will have to check it all out. ;)

I've just put the basic information I have on my Costley family in the hopes that someone else with an interest in this line might one day see it and get in touch.
It's through posts submitted by rootschatters that I connected with relatives on other branches so hoping to do the same here.

I should have thought of the Tithes Applotment Books and Griffiths Valuation. I've been using and cross-referencing information from the Census Records & Civil Records (BMD) and should think about broadening my resources.

I am stuck with some of John & Eliza's children (Catherine, Eliza Ann & 1 unknown). The 1911 census mentions 8 "living" children. Would you say that's an 8? (see document attached)
I initially thought this migth not be accurate and that some of them might have died at birth or during childhood but information concerning other children has been relatively accurate.
I've tried first & last name variants, maiden names of mothers during relevant timeframes, immigration records, canadian & usa census records (obviously limited as I don't know their married names if they had one before immigrating)...they don't show up on other family members records (present at birth/death, marriage witnesses, next of kin, etc).
Would you have any other suggestions on where or how to look?

Thanks again,

SJ
