World War One / Trying to find what regiment my Grandfather fought in.
« on: Saturday 10 November 18 17:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Can anyone help please?  I'm trying to find which regiment my Grandfather fought with.  His name was Edward Burman, born 1883 in East Dulwich in London, but lived most of his life in Northampton.  I think he joined up about 1916, aged 33.  My Grandma was very cross about it as he was in a reserved occupation, so didn't need to go.  He rarely talked about it but I think he was a gunner.  I do not have a service number or anything much except this photo.  Can anyone identify the regiment from the uniform?  Edward is on the left.

Dear Haydn,
I found a record of Evan Evans Marriage.  It took place in Christleton on 5 May 1829, when I think Sarah was 41, having been born in 1788.  She died in Ince, where EE was Curate, in 1847.  He's listed among the Vicars of Ince from 1843 to 1852.  So they couldn't have had a child in 1817, as Cory thought.
Cheers, Valerie

Caernarvonshire / Re: Bodlondeb, Trefriw

Update to all this. I have now been toTrefriw, walked around and seen the outside of Bodlondeb! Lovely place. Have also found a reference to David Evans, stonecutter, of Bodlondeb, one of the trustees of the cemetery and a loan for £600 for the land used for the cemetery, dated 1881. So ironic when I can't find his parents gravestone! Would anyone have any references to the setting up of the cemetery?
Have also found members of this family living at Y Wern or Wern Cottage and Bryn Crafnant and Bryn Dyffryn, all in Trefriw. Does anyone know where they are/were?
I know this post is really old now, but burials started in the cemetery in 1880.  I have the information about all the burials there up till 2015  - I used to be the Clerk, now retired.  It's likely your David Evans was buried in Trefriw churchyard which was in use up to about 1900, as I only have two David Evans and a David William recorded in the cemetery.

Dear KatPez, I could not find the link (it was last year!!!) to send you a private message, and I read now that I must have posted at least 3 times to do so.  I wonder if that was why i could not, and still cannot find the link to send you a message? ( Looking at my record now, though I see I have 17 posts, so that can't be the reason!)
I would still like a copy of the spreadsheet, if you still have it, so could you send me a message also so you can email it to me please?   Thank you

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Northamptonshire Place Name I can't read
« on: Sunday 18 December 16 17:32 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with reading this place name please?  The entry reads " John Winckelles of ???"
It's a Northants village, probably near Greens Norton, but all I can make of it is "Gillsone" which I don't think exists!
Any help gratefully received.

I don't really understand what "pm" means, I'm afraid I'm new to the forum.

Sorry I meant to post earlier. I emailed the council and they've sent me quite an extensive spreadsheet with plots and both old and new so if anyone needs it give me a shout

Would you still have the spreadsheet please - I want to look for some family graves next week?
Kind regards
Valerie
