Offaly (Kings) / Re: 1821823 Census for Kinnitty/Letterluna Parishes in Co. Offaly

Hi there,
I haven't come across a parish census (Baptismal records start 1833 according to NLI website)
There are fragments of census surviving from 1821 but the spelling may be challenging: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

Good luck

T.

Hi there,

You don't mention approx dates of birth but there was an Ellen Quegan born to William and Ellen (Boland) resident townland of Forelacka, parish of Kinnitty born 1866 (about 8 miles from Birr). Civil birth record here https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1866/03528/2298527.pdf
Ellen was baptised 9th June 1866 and her godparents were John and Bridget Boland: https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634781#page/89/mode/1up

Would that date of birth fit with what you know?

If it did, there was at least on other Quegan family in Kinnitty and in the same townland (John - father of Sarah, also born 1866).

You will also find the surname in the adjacent parish of Drumcullen and Eglish.

Hope that helps

Tara
PS civil Birth records available free on Irish government website from 1864 search for Offaly or Parsonstown or Birr at irishgenealogy.ie

Hi Barbara,

Great to hear from you.  I think you're ahead of things compared to me and the woman I'm helping (not "client" in the professional sense).  You've certainly amassed a great treasure of information.  We started only with the name of her great-grandmother.

I'll contact you privately with whatever information she's happy to share.

Best wishes,

Tara
I love that breadcrumbs of stories from 7 years are still out there pointing back to me:)  lve sent a message response to you so looking forwards to seeing what info on the Guilfoyle you might have to share.
Kind regards Barbara

Hi there,

I know that this thread is quite old but hopefully you're still monitoring for replies.  If you are interested in any information on Thomas Guilfoyle, please let me know.

I'm very interested in Lucy Lane/Luscombe/Guilfoyle as her husband Thomas, and their daughter Lucy are ancestors in a family tree I'm preparing.

Thomas Guilfoyle is the great-granduncle of my client.

I believe the "May" reference in Lucy Guilfoyle's 1914 birth is a clerical error (Lane - misheard). From the Irish marriage records I've reviewed, only Lucy's most recent surname would be recorded and that was "Luscombe" in her marriage to Thomas Guilfoyle, so I don't believe there was a marriage between that to John Luscombe and her later marriage to Thomas Guilfoyle.

Like you, I've been unable to find Lucy or her son Edward in the 1911 census in either Ireland or the UK. It is possible that she was in a workhouse and is only recorded by her initials.

Thank you for the extra information you provided about what befell Lucy Lane Guilfoyle and at least some of her descendants.  It has given me some new lines of research.

Best wishes

Tara

I am looking via the 1911 Census Ireland website and uk census via Ancestry. I live in Brisbane so can't really check the original records myself.

If I don't find them its really not an enormous issue as I have found lots of information from before and after this time  - just missing a few years where I am not sure where they were - and it is possible that these few years could be quite revealing.

think I may have to settle for this being an unknown.....

Offaly (Kings) / Re: Fleury

For what it's worth, there are two families of Fleury still resident in the parish of my birth near Birr - both catholic (one family included a catholic priest, and several nuns).

You won't find them in those phonebook, I'm afraid but there are other Fleury families in Offaly and other parts of Ireland.

Thank you!!!

That's him. Hopefully with his DMP number I'll be able to get something useful from the Garda archives when they re-open.

I really appreciate that and I'll try and return the favour some day  :)

There's a good chance that these are your Coghlan's or at least are related to them.
Frankford (now Kilcormac) would be located in Ballyboy Barony.

This gentleman and his photographic record may be helpful to you: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tacoghlanspics/albums/72157622127299381

Oh that's great!   :)

I'm always too tired after work to spend more than a minute trying to decipher the records. I'm lucky to be building on work done previously by an Uncle who viewed the records in person. I'm using my internet skills to build on what he found before, with some success.

I presume you've looked at the 1821 census, the Tithe Applotments and Griffiths Valuations as well?
I know there were lots of Coghlans listed in both 1821 and Griffiths (my great-great Grandmother was a Bridget Coughlan)
