Lanarkshire / Re: Photos of Carfin

Hi,

Would anyone still have some old photos of Carfin?

My recently late mother-in-law was born in a cottage tucked away up a small path between the little old church on the corner of Motherwell Rd and Chapelknowe Rd, (now sadly gone / wiped away having been burned out), and the Band of Hope Church hall behind.

My wife remembers visiting the cottage at some points in the early 1960's, where her gran still lived.

Any photos of the the cottage from the time leading up to when it too was demolished and that area would be great.
My Mother in law was born there in 1928.
I have no idea how long the cottage had been there before that.

Thanks in advance.

Is there anyone who could identify where Dickinson Crescent actually was /is. On my grandfather's deed poll notification to the London Gazette 16/07/1919, he notes 86 Dickinson Crescent, Gosforth (Newcastle -on-Tyne) as his current address. However try as I might I can't locate it. I have tried google map amongst others and lists of historical changed and redundant street names and can't find it. I notice however, that Tickettyboo has quoted it in the query above - the only time I've had confirmation that it wasn't an address made up by my grandfather!

:) I traced a number of photographs taken of the hospital, the board of governors and of Rowans Gardens / Kirklands Cottages on Whitley's Loan / Fallside Road. They were transferred to the Mitchell Library (archives section) by NHS Lanarkshire.

On application to the archivists you can see them - by appointment - and photograph them, (without tripod or flash etc).

The Kirklands hospital was built opposite its predecessor, Langdale Lunatic Asylum and was linked to a lunatic asylum in Cleland near Carfin (Omoa Road) which in turn had been a poorhouse - which posed a source of fear to those living hand to mouth in the area for so many years.
