Hi
Whilst going through old family photographs I came across the attached one of a man in uniform. He is not identified as a family member but may well have been a family friend. I have never seen a uniform like this one. It seems to be fur. The helmet appears to be WW1 but I have no idea what armed forces this uniform comes from unless it be something like Canadian?
Anyone know the answer??

I am transcribing a deed of 1491 and am stumped by one contraction. I think it reads:
Johes Colman de eadem ___ de Lopham parva
Anyone know if the contraction before de Lopham may be something like 'also of' as it seems to include the symbol for per?

Thank you so much for that. It is always easy to see in hindsight when someone points out the right words. In this case Thomas was of St Stephen's as were all the Pead/Peeds of this time living in the parish. I do not know about Maria and must do some research. What I do know is that when Thomas's sister was married 3 years later, she and her husband were identified as Lollards so perhaps a licence was required when one party was a non conformist of some type and not church of England.

Hi,
I have been revisiting the early marriage register for St. Stephen, Norwich and noticed that at the end of sevral lines including the marriage in 1569 of Thomas Peede ( see attached) there is a symbol followed by two words in latin.
I have not come across this sort of entry before and wonder if anyone knows what this addition means please ??

Suffolk / The Angel Inn, Bury St Edmunds

Hi,
I have just transcribed a deed dated 1661 which describes a messuage situated in Bury St Edmunds. The description of the location is as follows:
scituate lyinge & beinge within the Burgh of Bury St. Edmund aforesaid in a certaine streete there called Mustowe streete That is to say Betweene the messuage or Inne there called the Angell nowe in the tenure or occupacon of Thomas Headage on the north parte And the messuage or tenemt: late of Bridgett Baxter widdowe on the South part the Westhend thereof abutteth upon the streete called Old Baxters streete And the Easthend thereof abutteth upon the aforesaid streete called Mustowe Streete.
Long, long ago I stayed at the Angel Hotel and guess it must have been the Angel Inn in the 1660s. I am interested in whether any history of the Inn may have been written which lists the Innkeepers and Thomas Headage. It would be an interesting read.
Was Old Baxters Streete what later was called Nether Baxter Street ?

Library and FHS Lookups / National Archives Kew Lookup Request

Hi,
Is anyone going to the National Archives at Kew and could look up ( and photograph ) a specific item in the original State Papers (not the printed ones) ?
The manuscript reference below covers a missive from the Consul in Lisbon, Portugal Thomas Maynard which, whilst probably moaning as he usually does, includes a list of all Chaplains to serve up to that date (1656 - 1689 ). Usually his letters are not overly long but this one is of the utmost importance to me as I am compiling material to write a new biography of all Anglican Chaplains who have served in Lisbon. Although I visited London and the NA in March, I will not return to England for several years now ( I live in Portugal ). If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Denies that he ever was a Roman Catholic, as is slanderously reported, and cites all the Protestant chaplains who have been in Portugal since 1656, who can testify in his favour. He has never heard mass in his life, though he has lived about 50 years in Portugal and three in France.

Hi,
I am trying to find some details of a marriage of Robert Jepshon Peed in 1872 to Sophia Necond or Nicond. This took place in New South Wales but other than the national registration index listing it as in Sydney Reg No 160, I cannot trace any other records or newspaper report. PDFs of this marriage are not available.
Does anyone know anything about this marriage? Robert had been married before to Ann Margaret Drury in 1867 in Dublin Ireland so I guess Robert must have been a widower by 1872.
Any help would be most appreciated
