Lancashire / TAYLOR / ROBINSON - visiting Lancashire
« on: Sunday 04 March 18 17:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I am planning a trip to Lancashire for some ancestry research and looking for guidance on where to begin. I would first like to find originals of the attached records.

John TAYLOR (b. 08 Feb 1802.): hoping to find details of when he died and of parents (John and Sarah).

Nanny ROBINSON: John Taylor's second wife. Hoping to find details of birth / death, along with parent's names.

Their marriage and children's baptism seemed to all take place at Greenacres Chapel in Oldham. I'm not sure if it still exists, but would love to visit that area as well.

Any assistance or guidance is much appreciated! Thanks.

Here are two very similar Ann (Nanny?) Robinson's, both born in Oldham to a Thomas and Sarah Robinson, almost exactly 1 year apart, both of Cleggs(?). I would have thought the same married couple had daughter that did not survive, and then had an second daughter and gave her the same name. Appears this is not the case, as the first Ann, born 1801, was baptized in 1803. Second Ann was born and baptized in 1802. Any thoughts about what is going on? I know these are all common names, but is this really a coincidence that there are two Thomas and Sarah's of Clegg area of Oldham that both gave birth to an Ann one year apart?

The common link between John and James is parents named John and Sarah, born in Oldham, both Independent denomination.

Don't believe the Glodwick James is correct. I think it's the second James in the next post, born 20 Jun 1799 in Oldham.

I do have the John Taylor - Nanny Robinson marriage. They were the parents of John and Daniel Robinson Taylor. I assumed that John had been a widower, and that his first marriage was this one:

Marriage: 26 Aug 1821 St Chad, Rochdale, Lancashire, England
John Tayler - Weaver, Lowerplace
Mary Wrigley - (X), Spinster, of same place of this Parish
Witness: Thomas Platt; D. Nield, P.C.
Married by Banns by: Thos. S. Mills Curate

John and Mary were the parents of Samuel. I have these names in family records as well - just not certain on deaths of John Sr., Mary or Nanny.

Here are the records I had found for the older John and his sons, John and James:

JAMES
Baptism: 9 Apr 1798 St Mary, Oldham, Lancashire, England
James Taylor - Son of John Taylor & Sarah, his wife
    Abode: Glodwick
    Occupation: Weaver

JOHN
First name(s)   John
Last name   Taylor
Birth year   1802
Birth date   08 Feb 1802
Baptism year   1802
Baptism date   10 Jun 1802
Place   Oldham
Denomination   Independent
Father's first name(s)   John
Mother's first name(s)   Sarah

Thanks for that. The son, James*** was born Jun 1799, so seems likely they would have had to marry sometime in 1798... or earlier if there are other children I have not come across.

***assuming he was, in fact, a son...I am only 100% certain of the son John, and James seems very likely due to common location/parents names on baptismal records or John and James...
