Wikipedia has detailed information relating to the abbreviation AB.  My grandfather is noted as one on nearly all the  Discharge sheets issued to him on the completion of his voyages.

I am researching the life of my grandfather Alfred Peter Ennis born in 1856 in the Channel Islands who was a merchant seaman.  I have in my possession all the discharge sheets he was issued when leaving the ships.  They start in 1872 and end in 1899.  The information in the previous post is, therefore, of great interest to me as I have been trying to solve the jigsaw. I am trying to get as much information about the voyages he undertook which are wide and varied and also any information regarding his ancestors.
