Leitrim / Re: James Christie born County Leitrim

Christie is a fairly rare name in Leitrim and the Griffiths valuation of land records of about 1847, lists one family in the parish of Drumreilly, two in Cloonclare and five in Inishmagrath - the odds favour Inishmagrath.

Civil Registration in Ireland for Births, Marriages and Deaths did not take place in Ireland until 1864 for Roman Catholics. This will explain why you have found a Death Certificate, but no birth or marriage. Your best opportunity to get this information would be from the Church record transcriptions that may be available from the Leitrim Genealogy Centre in Ballinamore.

Leitrim / Re: Moran from Cloone, Leitrim

The fundamental piece of knowledge required in researching Irish relatives is to know the exact Townland that they originated from. In the absence of postal addresses the collection of fields that made up a specific Townland provides the basis for further research. For example, in Cloone Parish the Griffiths Land Registry entries of about 1857 lists 3 pages of Moran's in various Townlands in Cloone.

John
