Hi tidybooks and ABoog.  Good to hear from you, ABoog.  Please do post again so that we can PM each other. I haven't looked at Rootschat for quite a while, so it was good to have a bit of activity on my topic.   :)

Thanks for your suggestions, which I will follow up.  But I live in New Zealand so it's a little difficult to get to the Central Library in Edinburgh!

Midlothian / Hammermen in Canongate

Can anyone suggest how I can find out more about an ancestor of mine who was Deacon of the Incorporation of Hammermen in Canongate.  He was Robert BOOG/BOAG/BOG (1711 - 1766).  I have sent an email (twice) to the address on their webpage, but have had no reply.
Many thanks.

Hi Nikki

I have tried to email you several times on the address you gave me, but they keep bouncing back.  :-(

I found your Elizabeth Jane in the 1851 census, living at 5 Victoria Place, Whitby (I think that's just off Baxtergate) in the household of 60 year old Hugh SCOTT, a blind unmarried proprietor of houses, and his two sisters - Eleanor CHARLTON, 70, and Margaret WALKER, 62.  They are both widows.  (I wonder if the name Walker is significant, given that Elizabeth Jane was to marry Matthew in 1853.)  EJ is 23, a niece of Hugh Scott, and a House servant.

I also notice in FamilySearch that Thomas Breckon married Hannah Scott on 17 July 1820 in Whitby - his first wife I guess?

Happy hunting - I look forward to hearing from you.

Oh.  Sorry!  Elizabeth was married in Dundee in 1875 to Alexander INNES from Banffshire.  He died in Canada in 1890.  Elizabeth was born in Dundee, the daughter of John OGILVY and Elizabeth BRUCE, in 1843.  She died in Balmerino in 1922.

Hi Norrie
A latecomer to this thread.  :)
Are there any gravestones for OGILVY?  My grandmother, Lizzie Ann Bruce INNES, whose mother was Elizabeth Ogilvy, was born at Coupar Grange in 1877, and Ibelieve there was family there.

Many thanks

Nikki, I've just come across your post from Nov 2010.  I am interested in one of Thomas Breckon's daughters, Hannah, who married william Sleightholm WHITE in 1860.  Elizabeth Jane was one of the witnesses.  Did you know about 32 year old Thomas Breckon who died in September 1846 when he was run over by a railway wagon (I have his Death Certificate)?
