The only Ada Mackay born about 1900 in England is this:

Mackay    Ada         Prestwich    8d   352

Following this birth they appear on the 1911 Census in Bradford, North Manchester.  Is this likely to be your family??

He was born 1929 so was too young to have served in WW2
But people faked it! Some were found out....some weren't.

(The Salvation Army cannot help where adoption has taken place due to UK legislation)
No idea of the origins of this.....but I rang the Salvation Army and although an adopted person is harder to find as there are the possibilties his/her name was changed but they confirmed they can search. They did say they do have guidelines by law they must follow though.

It would be best to remove the names of people who could still be alive, it is against the policy of RootsChat to display the names of living people.
Mhmmm...............this has been brought to my attention by another user, but thanks :)

Oh, I love posts like these  :D  but unfortunately I also have to be careful as it is living people :(

The Salvation Army Family Tracing Centre is absolutely BRILLIANT and suggest you speak to them immediately. They are expert researchers with over 100 years' service in tracing long lost family or relatives.

An alternative is: have you tried to find a marriage for a (*) in Sheffield? That would be your first pot of call - then you can search for children to see if they stayed in Sheffield where they had any or if they moved away.

Good luck & best regards,
Jayne.

Nanny Jan -  TalkTalk have been involved in some major scandals lately, so I'd watch your details and e-mails.

I tried opening my dad's record who was born in 1932, and sent in an affidavit my dad signed to allow them to open his record.  FindMyPast came back and said the following:
Quote
We have opened the closed record you requested. We have also opened the other closed records of that specific household for reasons which we cannot disclose.

Thanks it looks good, i guess next step would be to see if that street used to run a bus service?
Yes, good idea, as there is a bus stop in the background. It's a red stop so you should check if buses ran down the possible streets you have. It is likely, in the '50s, that many bus services travelled that way as it has always been a predominantly poor + working class area so doubt people had cars.

Ireland / Re: Age of a minor at marraige
« on: Tuesday 15 December 15 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
'of full age (subsequently proven to be 23 years old) who was a soldier stationed there.
Full age is a very simple term to represent a person being over 21 years, the age you didn't need consent to marry.

What was the age that a person was classed as a minor?
A person classed as a minor admitted to being under 21 years, therefore his/her parents would be questioned if they gave consent to this marriage. People under 21 who said they were of full age had no consent to marry normally.
