Lancashire / Re: sledden family anyone know owt

Thanks, I removed the e-mail, I should have intuited that rule but it has been years since I have looked out here.
I have looked at most variant names in postings but there are few Sleddons, relatively speaking, so I will await a reply as to where nsleddon has ever looked at "our" variants. There are about thirty variant spellings, with about ten predominating. This is the first interest I note in that particular spelling since last visit.

nsledden, we are greatly interested on the other side of the pond about Sleddens, as pertains to the records of Sladens and Sladdens and possible connections. There is a Domesday entry for a thane named Slettan in Dunnington, York, and among many theories, an Old German word for hillside was sleyda and Old Norse for flat places is slatten. It is all rather airy-fairy since there are other theories about sloe berries and other vowel-shift possibilities, but we are trying to blend paper genealogy with genetics when possible whether we get to the root of the name(s) or not.
If you know of any interest in DNA to add to your paper-trail, please SEARCH on Slaton DNA, most engines will find our Family Tree Project.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Rochdale Lookup please
« on: Tuesday 22 January 19 21:17 GMT (UK)  »
Suzyf, thanks for seeding this family question resulting in these postings.
I have one yDNA project member who probably descends from Rochdale Sladens, so anyone interested in those lines, please contact me at the e-mail addresses at Slaton DNA on Family Tree DNA (http://www.familytreedna.com/public/SSSFP_YDNA) or search the surname on the Guild of One Name Studies, I administer both projects.
We are seeking surname bearers or sponsors for them who are interested in the genetic genealogy of the Sladens (we have one result each from claimed Kent and Lancashire "branches.") All of our results on Family Tree DNA by using the link above or SEARCHing on most engines for Slaton DNA, but of course names are protected for privacy, only kit codes and claimed oldest ancestors show when provided.
Our descendant was from a man who claimed Rochdale birth in 1840 and he lived a colorful life in the American Civil War and met with Cochise, he rec'd two medical degrees (when it was not a tough as that would be now). His son became commandant of West Point Military Academy. We are hoping to find some matching patrilines outside of the U.S.
Acc to McKinley's surname series, there was a village named Sladen between Todmorden and Littleborough, and I suspect a variant Sladden is also genetically or genealogically connected, but we need yDNA to go with our paper-trails!

Failed to mention: our results can also be viewed via the Guild of One Name Studies website - Slaton page. We recognize the many (over 30) spelling variants, but Slaton in INDEX will get you there, whether your interest is Sladen, Slatton, etc

I would be extremely interested in locating this on Google Earth or whatever. I have been frustrated in figuring out which is which, and my nearest contact is in Canterbury.
I have a YDNA test going to the lab, from a descendant here in America, and am hoping to find one in Old Blighty who has a result, or is interested in getting one. We are months away from this first result on Family Tree DNA.
Anyone anywhere who is a direct male descendant is encouraged to contact the Project, especially known lines from British and continental Europeans.
